Hm... when I read the instructions on the Bose Companion 5 and when I first set it up, it said to have all equalizers turned OFF. So I did and it sounds great. I tested it with having the EQ ON and OFF and today, after listening to the same music all over and over again, I found that you get a much clearer vocals when you have the EQ settings turned ON. Well, this is from iTunes EQ. The vocals sounds much louder and clearer and the whole music sounds louder too. Hm....
Not sure whether to keep it ON or turn it OFF as suggested.

It depends if you like your music pure, or 'enhanced.' It's purely a matter of preference. On speakers as inaccurate as Bose are to begin with, you don't need to worry about hurting the integrity of the recordings, so just do whatever sounds better to you!

mm, over priced speakers, speakers should not need an EQ to sound good.

Hehe, one major reason why I chose Bose over other brand was I want a speaker system that would look great with my setup and sound well. As far as I'm concerned, the Bose Companion 5 has satisfied both of those for me. Not only that, because I am living on a dorm there's not a lot of room to work with on my desk. I had my Spherex 5.1 on my dorm and it was creating a lot of complaints with my neighbors because of the Bass and its too loud. Probably because I used to like to blast my music. So I decided to get another set of speakers that would not take a lot of desktop space and found that the Bose Companion 3 and 5 delivers an excellent sounding quality after hearing the demo displayed at BestBuy. I also used to work at CompUSA and kept playing with the Bose demo cuz it just sounded too loud. I could hear it from one end of the store to the other.
So, with that in mind, I tried out the Bose Companion 5 and I was amazed by the quality of sound Im receiving. A lot of you say/mention about untrained ears, well, maybe its what I needed afterall. So if my ears are untrained, then the Bose Companion 5 has given me the quality of sound I want in a music, nothing less.
Even if I own the best and most expensive speakers there is available in the world and it doesn't sound good to my ears, then I will not use it. But because the Bose Companion 5 system has given me the sound I want from my music, then it's all I need to convince me that these are the speakers for me.
And also, update on the EQ settings. I turned it off because it seems like the EQ was giving me too much Highs and Lows but not a lot of Mids. With it turned off, its frequency is much more accurate. So I guess it should be turned OFF.
So in conclusion, the reason why I chose the Bose Companion 5 was because it was a speaker system that suits my needs. It doesn't take a lot of room from your desk, it provides a fair Surround Sound effect (when you are on the right spot), it also provides an excellent quality in frequency response and the sound I expect from my music is also excellent. And oh ye, it looks good!

LOL, name any and I mean any speakers out there available that does not need to be adjusted and will sound perfect on any type of music. Yep, thats right. You don't know what you are talking about. If recording studios have such an expensive equipments, they have no need to adjust anything on their systems. But yet, they do! That's because different types of music requires different types of adjustment to sound the way the artist/musicians wants it to sound.
The EQ helps adjust those frequency settings. They work like those high end audio equipments, they have a lot of knobs, switches, and what not to adjust the equalization. That's what the EQ is for on your computer as well, they work similarly but not a lot of options compared to the high end equipments available.
Maybe next time you post, make sure you know what you are talking about.

you are very right... every speaker system needs calibration... but really buying ANYTHING bose is like being tricked into buying a pinto for the price of a porche, thinking you will get 10x the performance of said porche.

Banned from other boards? haha, what boards? I've never been banned from any boards before. The only forums I post in are here and Tech-Forums.
Please give me a single forum out there that I'm banned at.

Look I just posted a reply just now.

How come I can post a reply if I was banned? Pfft. Haha, get your facts straight please.

Hehe, where's the proof? If you show me some data or what now then I will believe you. But for now, I'm satisfied with my Bose C5 system. Though, I do agree that Bose sucks on their Home Entertainment Speakers but not for PC speakers. Just because their Home Theater speakers sucks does not mean their other products are just the same thing.

LOL you call those proof? Those are just forums like these here. Assumptions and Opinions are far from being a proof.
I don't see any scientific experiments thats being done or mathematical data's recorded.
You call this a proof?
http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html
Like I said, even if I would consider that a proof, it's the Acoustimass-15, and this thread is about the Companion 5. If one product is faulty, does not mean their other products are too as well. When was that little article created? It was last updated on October 27, 2004. When was the Companion 5 released? Yup, August 2006. Two years after that article was created.
Oh, its like saying, just because the Bose 901 was really really good does not mean that their new speakers are going to be good as well. What's the point? Well, its the same thing as saying, just because one of their products are horrible does not mean the rest of their product will act the same way.
Edit: I just read most of the post in the thread you linked and I can tell you that 99% of them are comparing the Bose Home Theater System with other Home Theater Systems. And yet again, this thread I created is about PC Speakers. Whats the difference? You figure it out!

hmm lets think... home theater speakers are supposed to be of better quality (more room to produce sound over) if their HT speakers suck balls... what makes you say their lesser quality pc speakers dont.
for the 400 bucks you spent you could have the Logitec Z5500's that would blow the living snot out of that bose crap and you got, and you would be 250 bucks richer.... im sorry im done with this tread... trying to defend bose HA.

FYI, I do have the Logitech Z-5500 as well as the Spherex 5.1 system. If you have read my past post, you would know. And yes, I have compared them side by side listening to the same music over and over again. Then I ended up with a result where the Bose Companion 5 provide me the best and clearest quality out of the three speakers I have.
And yea, why did I get the Bose Companion 5 considering that I already have the Z5500 and the Spherex 5.1 system which is using Mirage's Omnipolar technology?
Answer: Because I wanted a speaker system thats not too bulky and yet provide a good to great quality sound. And the Bose Companion 5 has given me far better quality than I expected.
Oh yeah, find all the people that are dissatisfied with their Bose Companion 5 and people that are satisfied with it. Chances are, at LEAST 80% of the Bose Companion 5 OWNERS are VERY SATISFIED with the Bose Companion 5 Speakers.
Notice how I bolded those selected words. Because chances are, you will find something else, like Bose's Home Theater Systems instead of the Companion 5. Yes, I already know that you can get a much better speakers for the same price as the Bose but I do know that it only applies to their Home Theater Systems.
Trust me, I've already researched the Bose Companion 3 and 5 and at least 80% of the people who has "OWNED" it are very satisfied with it. No, not people who just listen to it at BestBuy because they dont OWN the product, they listen to it and not own one.
And yes, true, I'm trying to defend Bose but only with their PC speakers. Have you seen/read any post of mine that clearly says that the Bose Home Theater systems are better than other Home Theater systems from other brands?
LOL, kids these days. They just don't know what they are talking about. At least I have clearly stayed on topic, not steered away and moved on to a different type of speaker system to prove that they are correct. HA my A$$!!!
Edit: If I wanted BIG speakers, I could easily get one, but that's not the reason why I bought the Bose Companion 5 system.
Edit #2:
Like this review from this guy....

Bose is going overboard with these "Companion 5" speakers, and I dont mean that in a good way. I have tested these speakers and can say they are the worst bose product ever. Bose's great marketing will probably brain wash everyone into thinking these sound great, like they do with all of their products. The speakers get extremly distorted at high volume levels. They sound aweful when listening to stereo music, sound ok with a 5.1 channel encoded movie. $400 dollars for these speakers is outrageous, I wouldn't even pay the companion 3's price of 249. Anyways, as a conclusion, don't get these speakers unless you like to throw away money and fool yourself yourself into thinking that you have the best speakers just because they are bose, bose is soo bad, all they have is great marketing. Bose is not worth the money. DONT GET THESE SPEAKERS.
---------------------
He clearly did not own the product, because as you can see "I wouldn't even pay the companion 3's price of 249."
But here are the other reviews from the people who has owned the product.

Probably because my Bose Companion 5 has very well given me the quality I expect in my music which gives me a reason to defend it from those people who assume that this speaker is very inaccurate just because of the "Bose" name brand. These people are typically the people who has never owned the Bose Companion 5. They may have owned a Bose product but not the Companion 5. Once they do own the Companion 5, they will know what it really sounds like.

What a big waste of database space, and some of the responses here just make me sad to read. If the guy likes his speakers and they work for him so what if they are bose or any other brand? If no one had replied with their own trolling responses the one-post thread would have just faded away. I'm reporting this one and I hope it gets closed or deleted, some long-time OCF members probably should too because this thread makes us look bad.
End of thread.
All of you just stop bickering over a pair of speakers for goodness sakes! Also, stop trolling threads with your "LOL BOSE SUCKS" posts because thats whats derailed this thread in the first place.
