View Full Version : different models of the 8800gt.. and a noob question
alright well i got really happy cause i found a 8800gt at 203 (in canada) but realised that it only had 256 megabit of ram and it ran at 1400 mghz..
so besides the size and speed of ram what should i look for when picking out a new 8800gt.,,.
and now for the noob question
does my mother board need to be pci 2.0 or will pci 1.6 work.. thnx

The only difference is the mem size and speed.
You need a PCI-E motherboard, doesn't matter if its ver.1 or 2 as the cards are backwards compatible.

To put your question in perspective....if you run games at resolutions higher than 1280 x 1024 the 512 version would give you better performance, the 256as it has less memory are more suited for lower resolutions, 1024 x 768 up to say 1400 x 900.
The core and memory speeds of both cards are the same, the GTS just have more torque so to speak.
