Well I have had my system running for about a week here, and I was watching teh temperatures to see what they are like. The highest it has been is 41.50'c is this bad? and at idle it is around 38 or so.. Do these seem high for temperatures? I want to start overclocking it soon, but I want to make sure it is running cool enough. I have got the CPU to post at 1733..
anyway.. Thanks..
Slick.
First compare the cpu temperature to the case temperature. If your case is running 38C also, I'd attend to the case cooling/airflow first. If your case is around room temp (guessing about 23-26C), look at what you can do for cpu temps. You can use ducting, or other mods to improve cpu temps.
Your temps would be alright if you were already overclocking a little, but for a stock system, I'd look into it first before puting more juice to the processor.

Yeah it's an unlapped 8045, and I only used one washer.. so I might put 4 more on (1 on each) and see if that decreased my temps anymore..

Yeah you pretty much gotta use 2 washers on each screw right from the get-go. That's what I've found, and heard from others.
What fan are you using? The Alphas see the best results with a 55-60 CFM unit.

I am using a 50cfm.. I lost two of the washers, I have to go to the store to pick some more up..

What are you using to monitor your temp? Are you using MBM? I got 1.1 Tbird with the Swiftech 462 and I get 42c max. So I suppose the temp you are getting are right. But then again the XP is suppose to run a little cooler then the older tbird. What kind of thermal paste are you using? Maybe there is too much on or too little.

I am using the one that came with my motherboard. The xp's use 20% less power, but I don't think that coresspondes to cooler running so much as more efficiency. I do'nt know, I am going to u=put the other washers on and give it a try. My overclocked temperatures at 1533mhz running prime 95 for 7 hours was 43'c so that isn't too bad I guess... but I want them below 42.

It seems pretty good although you can probably do better if you have time to add the additional washers.
By the way if you wanna do something while watching tv other than sitting your butt down onto the chair with your beer and nachos spend some time lapping it.
You'll loose temps down to 37 degrees maybe if you do it well enough and add the right amount of ASII.
