On the rig that you see in my sig, the router always works fine, ALWAYS.

My family uses AT&T @home, which now uses a dynamix IP. In winipcfg, there is a thing that says something about "Lease obtained" and "Lease expired." My computer always goes through that thing fine and is always configured for the internet. The old PII 300 Mhz Gateway brand computer does not. I can get it configured through a really annoying process of restarting and releasing the IP and whatnot, but it can never configure it by itself like my computer does. Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so, do you know how to fix it? I will call Linksys myself soon.

Do you have DHCP server enabled or dissabled on the router. Also do you have in your network neighborhood/ properties/TCP IP/properties-do you have this set to obtain IP addressd automatically?

If you do not have 'obtain IP adress aytomatically' checked (meaning you have selected a static LAN Ip for that computer) and you have DHCP enabled on your router, then you might be having this problem. The router is assingning IP's to your computer but the computer has a different static IP already.

I think that is how it all works anyway. check and see-Ive been wrong defore.

Just checked my linksys: make sure dhcp is enabled, make sure that a # of computers the same or larger than the # you have is specified.

Double check the settings in the rig that is having trouble.

Alternatively, or if that doesn't work, you can also try setting static ips on the computers: use 192.168.1._ (2, 3, etc) and make sure the subnet is 255.255.255.0. Set DNS Server and Gateway to 192.168.1.1. This should also work.
