my voodo 5 5500 reads 64mb of ram on the drivers but on every other program like direct X 8.1 or 3d mark it says it is 32....I think this is why my voddo isn't the best it could be......Any suggestions?? Thank you.

That's exactly it:) Each processor has 32 megs of ram... effectively 64 megs but the same data is stored in each 32 megs... so... 1 texture is stored twice... once for the primary processor and a second time the secondary processor... so in reality the Voodoo 5 5500 can only store upto 32 megs of data... just twice;)

i got a voodoo5 5500 i had a similar problem to what you are going through... you need to get the latest drivers from www.voodoofiles.com Voodoo5 is a kick ass card and has sooo many settings in the "3dfx tools manager" you can adjust the settings there "1) single chip (32megs) 2) faster performance (64 megs) 3) 2x anti-aliasing (64megs) 4) 4x anti aliasing (64 megs)"... faster performance is the best for voodoo5 in multiplayer action, but if you want some eyecandy try the 2x or 4x. If you can't see your "3dfx tool manager" than you need the latest drivers.
yeah just double check that you have both chips running and not one. the card is still very nice and a lot cheaper than a g3.

Texture data is copied for each chip, while the frame buffer is shared. The effective ammound of memory depends on your display resolution, but it's my understanding that the Voodoo drivers report 32MB to the API for compatibility purposes.

Too bad they went under before the Voodoo5 6000's were released. I heard a rumor that Nvidia is starting to incorperate the 3DFX technology into it's cards, but nothing that will be out soon.
yeah of the v5 6000 I have seen on ebay all went for atleast 1,500dollars! I really wish I had one.
