Just swapped this mobo for a P4C800 dlx and I can't get the onboard sound to work. I've tried everything, uninstalled , reinstalled, and whenever I try to install the soundMAX package, it runs through the install then pops up 'no driver found.' :bang head
Any suggestions?
Yes, I toggled the switch in the bios. Is there something I'm missing?

Is it HDA or AC97?
Driver from the CD or from Asus website?

Wow thats messed up...
Are you using the MOBO man'f install package or just trying to use a default soundMAX driver

I used the driver supplied from the Asus website. Is there an install package available?

After all ya'll's noodling, I went exploring the ASUS cd and did find the drivers (buried in the driver file, only accessible through explorer?) and tried both versions. No luck. Since the hardware is notlisting under device manager, I don't think I'm going to get it up.
Searching for cheap sound card now.
