View Full Version : "CPU Unknown" - What???

Hi, Folks!

I'm confused. Recently, it seems that many, if not most, of my benchmarks report either "CPU unknown" or "unknown CPU ID". What's odd is that the benchmark reporting works perfectly when I'm at a fairly low OC, but once I really get things dialed in, I start seeing one of these two errors on HWBot.org. What concerns me the most is that these have been happening for over a week, on two completely different systems. I'm pretty sure that it isn't a client software error due directly to the overclocking, since HWBot will often report silly things like:unknown, cpuid 'AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+'...like that's anything strange? ;)

Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone explain what might be happening? It feels like I'm finally starting to get the hang of OCing, yet I'm having a hard time racking up many additional points because of these errors. For what it's worth, I'm certain that some of them are points-worthy, based on earlier, slower overclocks that did net me points, where the new OCs are considerably faster on the same benchmarks. Thank you very much for any help or suggestions you might be able to provide!

EDIT: Please note that the proper CPU is recorded in the app and/or in CPUZ; this seems to be something that's specific to HWBot.org!

Best Wishes!
Mark

Hi, Gang!

Well, no answers yet, but I've just tried adding "Manchester" to my 4600+ scores, since there are actually two different Athlon 4600+ die (the other is the rare "Toledo" core). After the next rescan, we'll see if those benchmarks start popping up properly into my HWBot scores. If that doesn't work, the next step will be to disable all of the relevant HWBot entries from this forum, and then add them manually to HWBot directly. It's obviously a lot more convenient to enter them here, but if nothing else works, I'll give that a shot.

The only problem with this is that my old Pentium M 753 scores also reported as cpuid unknown past a certain frequency, but after a week or so they finally started appearing. Odd. It's almost as though beyond certain overclocks, that humans get involved in checking the reports before they're accepted?!? Of course, it could also just be freaky bots, but the timing has certainly been quite interesting for my scores.

I'll keep at this, and will let folks know whatever I find out.

Cheers!

I'd log into hwbot and manually edit the entries, just select your cpu from the drop down list :)

Yeah thats the easiest way, you must have changed your hwbot tag slightly if it was working before. When your on hwbot just type part of the processor name in the box (like 6700 for an E6700) and it will suggest a processor(s) from the database. Once you see the one you need just hilight it and hit Enter.

Hi, Todd & Maxi!

Thanks for the advice! I've started down the "edit HWBot" path a couple of times, but I keep stopping when HWBot warns me that the edits will be lost after the next forum scan. Does this in fact work out OK for simple edits like setting the processor type more explicitly?

I did notice in my case that adding "Manchester" to relevant forum posts seems to have solved that problem, but the info is still relevant, since some of my other posts have been miscategorized (like many of my 8800 GT 512MB results have gotten miscategorized as 8800 GT 256MB).

Thanks again for your help and advice!

Cheers!

yeah, when you get the warning, just click edit anyway I know what I'm doing, ;) and yes that's the best way for selecting the processor type if it's not picking it up automatically
