View Full Version : Updating Wedo's One Click
Can we either update Wedo's One Click installer, or remove it from the stickies?
When a new member uses it, and has a problem, it's a mess to fix it. I don't remember even using 5.02, and that version of the client does not uninstall itself as a service.
So you have to run through the registry editor with them, ==> Fun, Fun, Fun!
The current version of the single processor is 6.
One way or another, we need to update our sticky's. With or without Wedo'sl. Client ver. 5.02 is just obsolete.

I've been thinking about this for a looooonnnnngggg time. :)
But then SMP arrived and I thought it not worth my time to update. I say nix it!
EDIT: When you say, "update", I meant, "do away with", the current installer and write a new one. :) But keep svrany b/c I likes it. :D

I personally think we would have an easier time with helping new users if we got rid of it. There is always the 5.04 for the single proc client, and then the SMP client. I don't think we have much use for the older clients. Now if someone could update Wedo's one clicks with the newer clients, instead of using the old ones, maybe they could be helpful?

Wedo's one click is still great. The only difference between the 5.02 and 5.04 was that the flags that previously went into the registry now were just thrown when running the client.
Plus the 5.02 client still works why take it down? Maybe after the version 6 client is out of beta we can great a new one click that will be helpful, but until then I vote leave it.
There is no easy way to to upgrade the one-click and have the v5.04 client work as intended. The real reason the 5.04 client was introduced was to allow the user to limit the ram reported to the AS to avoid getting ram intensive WUs. If you leave it at the default, the each of the dual and quad instances is going to report all the system ram to the AS, same as the v5.02 client. If you had a one-click default value, it would be wrong for a significant number of machines. In short, there is little reason to update the one-click right now. The current one-click works fine on XP. Perhaps we should add a disclaimer about its use with Vista.

The 5.04 version will uninstall itself as a service, during a second configuration routine, the 5.02 version will not.
If there is a problem with an install for a new member, that is a big hurdle to jump. Just had this happen with a new member. :bang head: :bang head:

Version 6 for both Windows and Linux, is out, already.
Do we want as a team, to be promoting an obsolete FAH client? If a teammate goes to FAH's forum and asks for help, what will they receive; help, or giggles and told to update?
I could find no help on FAH's forum yesterday, when looking for the right registry key to remove the service install for 5.02.

They are out, but still in Beta and the SMP client for windows is still in 5.9 status. Once the Windows SMP makes it into the V6 client for windows I think it will be save to make a new one click.

Searching for "uninstall Wedo" I was given 40 posts to read. The three posts I checked had nothing useful.
I encourage you to read them all through yourself, and see if you find the answers you need.
Then let me know if you think your time was wisely used. :D :D :D
In my case, the new member was standing by for the answer in a pm, so put a timer on that read-through, please. Tick-Tock! :D
Those sticky posts are our team's "Storefront Windows", for all our new members and prospective members. We need to show our BEST stuff, right there. Our instructions needs to be to the CURRENT FAH client. How long did 5.04 stay in beta? Years?
I don't see the down side of shelving the One Click program, until it's using the current FAH client, successively. It doesn't have to be re-written right away, but why procrastinate on pulling it from our stickies?
It isn't our best right now, and should be replaced until it's once again, our best.

I haven't even seen wedo in a while (although I'm sure he's still lurking about) but Steve can't you make something like that? You did an awesome job with my searcher program and I'm sure you've even gotten more mad skillz since then
lol for some reason off the top of my head I thought the one-click used the 5.04  oh well :p
