the 600E is out of commision...i was pretty sure the P3V4X was gone...but since my dad upgraded to a Celeron 1.2 i decided to try my components in his bx board to see if they worked.....and after several mintues of plug and pray it was my cpu that turned out bad....surely enough i plugged the katmai in and my comp booted up beautifully and is running fine right now PIII450@567..not a bad oc....ill have to pop the intel heatsink off and lap it and put some thermal paste...i may be able to get 600...:D ....but my mom did say if i prove that the cpu is the problem and my computer runs fine for a coupla days that she will let me order a Celly 900 for like 50$ and that will last me till college when i think ill go amd, or northwood if i can afford it....

Sorry to hear that (actually read it:p ) my FC-PGA PIII600 cA2 @888 is still going strong, So does my P3V4X, tho I'm having problems reaching 900 (150FSB).

Wish my parents were that nice (haven't seen them for more than 12 years:eh?: ) they just gave you a car and now they're gonna give you a new CPU.

Wanna trade places?:D didn't think so:p

***EDIT***

Change your sig:beer:

oh yeah, thanks for the reminder....and i will have to pay for the cpu...i just dont have a credit card:eh?: ....yet:D ....just turned 16 so im relishing the idea that i can goi get money out of my account by myself without having to beg to my mom.....

it ****es me off because i knew that chip could do 888 because ive booted up at that before and i know it was my crappy generic ram, and right when i get some decent RK-Byte stuff with Micron chip the darn thing dies on me:mad: ...im hoping that the Celly 900 can pass 133fsb so maybe Rkbyte memory with Micron can e shown as crap or a cheaper alternative to micron/crucial ram....

also the death was of no fault to the cpu...i was running it with a crap heatsink that had a 10cfm fan..thats right 10CFM and then i overclocked it to like 780 so i was running better than a year with my temps in the 50-65 degree range....my idiocy (sure i got a globalwin, but that was later)....killed the chip....

god I feel old but I am glad you figured out the problem. I think going amd is a good choice cuz in school/college I don't think the northwood will be an option.

Looks like we are in the same boat FunnyPerson. My cpu or motherboard probably has died and I will have to get another one.

By the way if you get a Celeron 900 doesn't that require you to get a slotket ?

-Peace

Oh I thought you returned that thing hehe.

Well least you dish out less money than me since I may have to buy a new mobo and I was thinking of the Abit ST6 *Druels* then the Pentium 3 Tualatin's in the summer can fit quite nice in there.

And on the good side my Volcano 6cu+ will at least fit on the board other than the slotket which interferes with my chipset stupid how they put the chipset and the slot cartridge so close...

Naw in order for me to get this Celeron I had to trade oh well *ahem* happens..

Although what kind of case do you have if I plan on getting a new mobo(probably ST6) do you think it'll fit in the KTX mobo I have(at least it says KTX on the box) but its a mid tower back 2 years ago with the 3 cd rom bays and 2 floppy disks...

Well, no matter what CPU ya get... jazz is playin' taps for the dead 600... that was a pretty good OC you had on that chip.

Ahh you know how I felt when I suffered with the katmai for 2 years. I was so determined to push the chip then I figured "What's the difference between 500 and maybe 600 max." Now all I'm waiting for is probably a new chip or something and then get a thermal probe and soon a new mobo and start clocking till then no ocing I'm just sick of problems for now it'll have to wait and I feel fed up going in the bios screen.

Back when I had my PII 450 Katmai, I could hit 558 with the L2 Cache disabled. I started out at 504, did some burn in, and after awhile was able to run it at 539. I take my hat off to both of ya, getting that close to 600 with Katmais... mine took so long to get anything out of it was getting to the point where it wasn't funny anymore. It took so much just to eek out that extra Mhz.

if you have a dead cpu heres the way to fix it....say to yourself...well thats okay, it allows me to get a new one 50 tiems in your head till you get real excited about finally upgrading your cpu, then clean it off with rubbing alcohol and snap on a retail heatsink and prepare to say its last rites....and then try to boot it....

The first things I did when my comp died was wipe my slotket all over with rubbing alcohol finding any artic silver and I did find some which was on the leads as well but that didn't seem to be the problem since the slotket was running before that happened anyways cleaned it.

And wiped the slotket to be sure cleaned off the chip and heatsink and reinstall everything, no boot another try no boot.

Oh well today was a depressing day as we went around the damn town looking for a chip
