Hi,

I'm looking for PSU for my new machine which has below configuration:

supermicro X7DWA-N
http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon1333/5400/X7DWA-N.cfm

2x Xeon Quad-Core 3.0 Ghz FSB 1333Hz (E5450)
NVIDIA GeForceŽ 8800GT (PCIe x16)
ARC-1231ML raid controller (PCIe x8)
PCI TV Tuner
12x Sata 2 Disks
2x USB 2.0
1x Firewire
4 sticks of PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2-SDRAM Fully Buffered ECC CL5 DIMM

The watercooling contains

MCR320 QP 3X120mm Radiator
12V Laing DDC-1T Ultra pump

And I'm using Kandalf LCS case http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Chassis/fulltower/Kandalf_lcs/vd4000swa.asp
But I had to replace the watercooling it turns out crap :bang head

According to eXtreme Power Supply Calculator the recommended PSU wattage 1044, so I guess I should be looking for 1200W PSU.

So which the good PSU out there now, and is there other variables I need to take into account?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

My suggestions would be the Ultra X3 1kW, Thermaltake Toughpower over 1KW, or Silverstone OP1200/DA1200.

I'm currently running a CWT engineering sample 1200W, which is the same as the Toughpower 1200W, and love it. There isn't anything else I'd rather run in my main rig, actually.

You won't be using 1044W (the calculator is off), but these units should give you some overhead with all those hard drives.

Supermicro branded units will fit the bill as well. If you are running mission critical stuff, apart from what OK Wolf mentioned, I'd also look at Zippy (G1 series or PSL series).

Thanks guys,

Will I think I will go for Toughpower, would you suggest I go for 1200W or 850W be enough.

I'd go with the 1500W, 1200W, or 1000W - the 850W Toughpower is a completely different (and inferior) CWT platform.
