I'm settign up a server I want to know which would be beter for it, and if i would notice any difference between them on server applications.
im not quite sure about that... but i know the mp would be the best bet because the are made for servers....

i don't have that kind of money.... it's not going to be a high load server so i think the 1ghz duron will do just fine... and it's only $50!
i think since the tbird would have more cashe it would be better.... just my opinion i am not sure tho

I agree with bob.
The athlon have more caches and would performe better if a lot of application are running.
I have duron and it not quit good with multi application when I want it to. It almost as fast as T-bird but not multi application

i wont be running too many applications.... just 3 or 4. ne ways it's 1ghz and can kick my old hp's a**!
A Tbird 1000 will outperform a Duron 1100 in most cases. Anything tbird (even a 900) will do nicely.

i don't have enough $$ for a tbird. the duron 1ghz is only 49. i can't get any kid of tbird for that price. The closeest i saw was 58 for 950 t-bird, but it was and is sold out.
A Duron 1.0GHz should be OK but I would personally look for the fastest I could find, probably about 1.2GHz

yeah but the $$ issuie. and it's jsut a server
Make sure you put alot of ram in
that is the most important with a server
The extra cache on a tbird will make a big difference.

It seem like you have make up your mind.
all I could said now is. Go Go Go with the Duron I mean.

If I were u and had a choice betwin the 1Gig Duron and the 950 T-Bird, I would go with a T-Bird cause the extra 50MHz on the duron won't compromise w/ the 192KB extra cache that the T-Bird has...
Just my opinion
I hope I don't get flamed really bad for this thought, but AgEnT0140 says it's for "just" a server, and he's got about NO money to spend, yet doesn't mention (that I saw) just WHAT this "server" is for.
With this in mind, I might suggest he look around for an old Abit BP6 with dual celerons/PII/PIII's or something of the kind.
Also get a modified Promise ATA66-to-RAID card with four older 10G or 20G drives (pref. 7200 RPM).
That might not be to sheek and trendy, but should get the job done for CHEEP!
If kind of rig won't cut it, maybe you should just forget the whole idea.
Sometimes you HAVE to spend a LITTLE money!:p

True. IMHO if the server won't be that frequently used then even a Duron 650 and 256MB RAM will do.
