ever since i went with a cable connection i 've had problems with people accesing my File server. It worked fine for the first few days, then i cant establish a connection with people.Im not sure why this happens now, can anyone help me?
It is possible that your isp is filtering the ftp port.
During the Code Red bit last year my isp filtered a LOT of ports to shut the virus down: my webserver now runs on 81 still.

is there a virus running around?heard there was an E-mail virus going around, something about a screensaver.
anywho how can i fix it?
If the isp is filtering the port, you'll need to run on a different port:
ftp is usually on 21(?) I think- try 22. Trick is the url will have to have:22 or whatever port you switch the server to at the end.

cool, out of curiousity what FTP do you use?
i also found that this problem also happens with file servers on IRC that ihave, hmmm
I have used WS FTP, Cute FTP, and the built-in support in IE.
Mostly just the IE stuff, because I don't need it often.

Nah, I was referring to the client. Only ftp server I've used is the stuff included with IIS (Internet Infromation Server).

aslo do you have a dynamic IP address and has that changed. this could also be the reason. My cable IP adress has changed once or twice in the past couple of months. If it is dynamic and you want to avoid having to tell all your buds the new IP adress go HERE (http://www.no-ip.com/services/page/free/dynamicdns) Its a forwarding program thats free. You set up an account and name your FTP server somting like ragefreak.serveftp.com and give that out to your friends and it will always forward to your new IP.

but what about the file server i have for IRC?i use polaris and PAnzer and same thing happens, they cant establish a connection with me.:(
I thought of something alse: is your pc connected direct or do you have a router set up?
If a router, you may just need to open ports on it.

direct
Other than saying it may be the isp blocking ports again, I can't help there. You may be able to get a list of blocked ports from your isp.
