I have always heard that trusting the mobo to control your Raid is a bad idea. Is this still true with today's boards? I ask b/c I have an ASUS P5N32-E SLI that I am about to go Raid0 with 2 Raptors. I also have an SD-SATA150R PCI Raid controller that was given to me a while back that I could use if it would be the better option.

So that's my question, should I set up my Raid off the mobo, or should I use that controller? Or should I be looking for a better controller?

If you're just doing RAID0 use the onboard as there isn't much overhead to run it. The PCI card will limit your STR due to the limitation of the the PCI bus. A better controller is always a good idea, but decent ones that would provide a benefit over the two options you have now are $300+(i.e. not worth it).

Thanks for the help. That's pretty much what I figured, but just wasn't sure.
