Ok, this thread is probably going to be long because I am bad at explaining, but I really really need some help, this is driving my crazy.

System in a nutshell: e6400, biostar tforce 965pt, zalman9500, 7950gt, etc.

I have two of these:

I bought them about 4 months apart. These are mine:

Same type of ram, but different S/N.

As you can see I have one stick I am extremely happy with, and the other is causing me problems that are driving me nuts.

Long story short...

Good stick by itself can do:
266x8 2:3 400Mhz
300x8 2:3 450Mhz
320x8 2:3 480Mhz
375x8 1:1 375Mhz <-Where I want to stay for everyday
400x8 1:1 400Mhz <-Highest I am going to go

When I try dual channel, or the bad stick by itself I get:
266x8 2:3 400Mhz
300x8 2:3 450Mhz
320x8 2:3 wont boot
266x8 1:1 266Mhz
313x8 1:1 313Mhz
314x8 1:1 wont boot
320, 325, 330, 340, 350, 375, 400 all wont boot

Have tried everything voltage/timing wise, it just wont boot. It isnt even unstable memory errors. After I save and leave BIOS, I get 2 long beeps, my computer restarts, and everything is back to default.

I can't understand at all why this would happen. Why wouldnt ddr2-800 ram be able to run any higher than 313Mhz on a 1:1 divider? Does changing the divider do something to the ram that would make it so it can't run 375-400Mhz?

This is driving me nuts that I bought them at separate times expecting the same thing, 1 is a champion and the other is garbage. The worst part is I paid $115/$75 for the 2, and now they are down to $28. I have posted this on like 3 different forums, and nobody seems to want to help me :(

So I beg anyone to please give me any ideas before I end up paying for another stick and throwing $75 out the window. Thanks.

Ok here is an interesting update.. Since it was so cheap on newegg, I decided to cross my fingers and order a third stick of this ram. It came today, and works perfect like the first stick..

So I have Stick 1 that runs 375-400x8 1:1 perfect, Stick 3 that runs 375-400x8 1:1 perfect, and Stick 2 which can only get to 313x8 on a 1:1 divider. If I try to go any further, I get the 2 beep restart/reset.

Now I ask this though: Is Stick 2 a bad stick, or just a bad OCer (Can that even be considered OC though? Running 400x8 1:1 on ddr2-800?), or what?

I posted on the g.skill tech forums again, and asked the guy what I can do since there clearly is something wrong with the second stick... but most likely I'll get the whole "If it works at stock (266x8 2:3 and it does) theres nothing I can do"..

ugh so frustrating.. any thoughts?

hey sup, I'm at work so didnt read everything, but run memtest on the stick that doesnt overclock well to see if theres any errors. Another thing, is the stick that doesnt overclock well, the same manufacturer as the other 2?

Yeah all three sticks of ram are these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231085

And I never figured out how to run memtest86 since i don't have a floppy drive, but I hear you can use flash drives now? Anyway, I'll figure out how to do that for tonight. (I have always just used prime95 to judge it)

At least if it fails memtest86 I have a valid reason to RMA it and save 75 bucks.

Well you dont need to use a floppy, you can create a bootable CD using Memtest app. After creating it, just pop it in the drive & reboot.
If your cd drive is one of the bootup options then it will run automatically.
Hope that helps.

Go to this link http://www.memtest86.com/ and dl the
Download - Memtest86 v3.4a ISO image (zip)

If you have nero, simply insert a blank & burn the image.
