well I gave myself a weekend project, decided to make my original ATX case into a BTX case do to moving offices and my temperatures rising.

Basically I drilled out all rivets, and turned the framing as well as the motherboard tray to flip the Mobo and power supply.

The finish isn't perfect but it does suit my needs, 11 degree drop in temps.

Cooling is by 2X 80mm fans in the front, a stock HSF on my naked 4200+ 2X 80mm within the PSU and a single 120MM on the back of the case.

I realize wiring could be nicer, but some are too short for where the PSU is sitting now.

not bad.

I changed around some bits and did the same thing with my Stacker.

I'm intrigued as to why you got such bettter temps because the main appel of BTX is the differnt motherboard layout - processor is in the middle and the northbridge in line so you can use ducted air flow, etc.

Still that's pretty neat. and it offers better airflow along the bottom of the case - moving the CPU out of the hot top of the case.

I think it's because of the fins on my HSF, air runs straight through front to back, the entire front of my case is all holes, looks like a mac case.

That is actually called Reverse ATX not BTX...

I also did it in my stacker when I was watercooling... any drips would go to the bottom of the case instead of the video card.. .also the video card was hanging properly in the case in that fashion (IE Heat sink up).

The other benefit is.. most people have their computer case on the right side of their desk. Now you do not need to pull the case out to get inside it... or if you have a windowed case, it is still visible. :)

Obviously if you put your PC ontop of your desk this is negated :)

??? uh, isnt that just an upside down case. its seems to me if i just put the top on the floor then this is what i would get.. what am i missin?

its just a reverse atx, it can help cooling, im going to do it when i build my next comp with WC, so if the cpu block leaks it wont go on the graphics card(s) ít will just go to the bottom of the case

cool. i would add a blow-hole intake. your video and NB will love it. :)

I might suggest putting a duct above the cpu to direct the heat right out the back. since the most heat is coming off the cpu and of course heat rises that will just be adding to the problem for everything else. my 2cents.

Is that the G5 wannabe that was in the cyber deals for 20is bucks?

Great job! Did you reverse the rear fan to act as an intake?

11 degree difference? wow, just from flipping everything over.

lol, based on what assumptions/analysis?

My Lian Li does the flipped ATX as its stock setup.

Strictly speaking this isn't BTX. BTX still has the expansion cards at the bottom, so it's a mirror image rather than a 180 degree rotation. That said, good work on the mod.

I changed around some bits and did the same thing with my Stacker.

I did the same thing, also on a Stacker.
