I recently purchased a GeForce 2 MX-400 64mb vid card and when overclocked with powerstrip it runs extremely hot and was wondering how i could remove the heatsink and also how would i mount a new one so it would stay on without being monitored by me all the time

TripleH,

If your card has pushpins take plastic tweezers and release the pushpins on the underside of your card.

If no pushpins and they glued the heatsink onto the gpu:

Place the card in an electrostatic bag and place in the freezer for 15-30 minutes then take a credic card and place it next to the heatsink and take a butterknife and place that on the credit card and pop it off, take your time....

Clean the GPU (graphics processor unit) with Nailpolish remover that has acetone in it to clean the gpu.

Then depending on if your card has pushpins and lets say you buy a Blue orb or Crystal orb that has pushpins apply thermal paste to the gpu and put the new heatsink on.

If no Pushpins read this Article (http://www.overclockers.com/tips759)

The Thermal adhesive instructions are universal.

1. Take out the VC and place it in a freezer zip lock bag for a like 15 min. Then take it out and with a srewdriver on the corner of the heatsink and credit card underneath the screwdriver gently pry it up try each corner till it works...

2. use a can of compressed air and spray it directly in the midle of the heatsink (compreseed air is very cold) and then do the screwdriver credit card trick...

For anyone wo might have problems with subjecting their cards to cold i have another method.

Grip the card firmly in you left hand.
Using you right hand frimly take hold of the heatsink
With a slight twisting motion slowly try to twist off the heatsink. it should start to come lose just keep twisting it untill it pops off. then clean it and off you go.

I wouldn't dare use a screwdriver on my stuff because i have a tendency of breaking things. and two my concerns about the cold come from the fact that in the summertime in my area we often have 100% HUMIDITY this will quite quickly condense on you componets and can possibly fry them.

Happy Modifying
