View Full Version : What to use to OC my new 8800 GTS (G92)??

I just got this card, about to install the new HR-03 GT, but I want to see the temp difference before and after. I've never used Rivatuner before and it won't even let me overclock with it due to it not supporting the current Nvidia drivers??

Is there anything else I can use to OC / Monitor temps?? Or how can I get rivatuner working for myself?

Help a fellow noob out! lol

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: ATI Tool won't work properly either for some reason, it errors on me and won't do anything.. Anyone else getting this to happen with the new GTS??

You have to change a file in Riva's registry for it to support the GTS 512. lemme look it up quick.

Edit: Found it, open rivatuner.cfg file, under [GPU_10DE] at the bottom you will see G92,

The line will look like this: G92 = 610h-61Fh

It needs to look like this: G92 = 610h-61Fh,600H

Save it and your done. This will also allow you to control the fan speed. The fan on these cards is loud as hell if you take it up past the stock 30%, I replaced mine with a Accelero S1, i would recommend you do the same unless fan noise doesn't bother you.

See this thread (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=540956&page=2).

Post 47 is specific, but I gave the whole thread for reference.

Thanks for the speedy responses. So what are people using to test for artifacts for this card? Since ATI Tool isn't working atm?

Need to uninstal and re-install ATI Tool, it will then work, make sure you have the latest one

I tried this and it doesn't work on my 8800GTS 512MB. Using RivaTuner 2.06 and 169.28 drivers.

I uninstalled, installed, changed the .cfg value and started with the same result. I did this twice. Is that the only change required?

whats the problem qtip? Chances are it will tell you it may not be able to overclock because of unsupported drivers, but that warning is nothing to worry about. Rivia should report you card at an 8800GTS g92 with 512 ram. If it dose then your fine, just give it a go. If it can't find the card then theres not much we can do for you apart from suggest using older drivers.

RivaTuner doesn't show the fan and overclocking options -- it only shows 3 options: 1) Low Level refresh settings 2) Low level desktop color schemes 3) Graphic subsystem diagnostic report

I used to have an 8800GT in there and RivaTuner worked great, but no luck with the 8800GTS

hmmm, perhaps check that you save the .cfg file? try older drivers? thats all i can suggest, i don't actually have a GTS (ok well i do have a GTS 320mb lying about), just a GT

no, it doesnt do the yellow boxes like atitool, you have to look for the artifacts manually.

I use Xpertool for clocking and fan control..

works great on xp and vista

That will not detect artifacts, you can use it to stress the GPU, OpenGL FUR rendering (http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/) is actually much more strainious than rthdribl, it also puts strain on the CPU
ATI Tool detects the slightes artifacts mathematically, so run FUR to heat the GPU core for 5 minutes, if it doesn't lock up start ATI Tool and enable the spinning "hairy cube", then click on "Scan for artifacts" and note the time it starts, if it runs for 10 minutes without resetting the stopwatch on the lower left of the spinning "hairy cube" then you have stable core and shader settings.

For ultimate memory stability testing you need to run 3DMARK03 (not 06) Battle of Proxycon for 10 loops, if it passes your memory is stable, you need the full version of 3DMARK03 to run that

Hope this helps, PM me for any questions :)

Would not recommend that, it is not stable and as failsafe as Riva Tuner

I've been using Xpertool for a couple years, it's perfectly stable, but I wouldnt recommend it until you find out what clocks you want to use..

I tried this and it doesn't work on my 8800GTS 512MB. Using RivaTuner 2.06 and 169.28 drivers.

Then you did something wrong on the edit cause I am using the 169.28 drivers with my G92 GTS and RivaTuner.

Make sure to open the file w/ Notepad, and make sure your save sticks by re-opening the file.
