Ok, this is the first time I've ever built an entire rig from the bottom up.
Here are the specs:
Dual EVGA 8800 GT''s
thermaltake va8000 armor series
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R x2
ASUS CROSSHAIR AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor
ABS Tagan BZ Series BZ900 ATX12V / EPS12V 900W Patent Piperock Modular Power Supply
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit

here is my dilemma.
I also bought a 150 gb WD Raptor. I installed it, and the bios recognized it, so I had to use the windows storage manager for the windows to recognize it in "My Computer" and it worked for a day. I come home from work today and it shows up once in the boot menu, and then i install a windows update, and then it doesnt ever appear again. I tried using a new sata cable, moving it to a different sata port. none of this worked. I unplugged the hard drive that does work and plugged JUST the raptor in and got a disk error as expected. I'm just trying to exhaust all options before I put in an RMA for this drive. it doesnt even show up in the bios anymore.

thanks in advance

Try downloading Western Digital's 'Data Lifeguard' and see if you can't sort the drive out that way... http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?swid=1

Hopefully it's something simpler than a stuffed drive.

Yeah I tried that too, and its just giving me "there is no hard drive other than the windows drive"

well i did some more trouble shooting on this today, i took it out of its mounting bracket and actually watched it while I turned the PC on, and it made *clicking* noise which i dont know if raptors are supposed to do that, but its definitely getting power, but just not getting into the computer I already put my RMA request in, so I'll be sending it out tommorow

Hehe, this is really funny, my dad told me to drop it a foot off the ground onto to try and dislodge the head...anyone ever heard of this?

I thought it was pretty funny.

I thought it was pretty funny. That's called an "advanced RMA drive diagnosis: dead". ;)
