My system isn't oc'd yet but is too damn hot for me to consider anything . 43- 46 idle and 47.5 to 52.5 load. I have been considering my option:
1/ Change globalwin's paste and use artic silver.
2/ Add another case fan ( got one just need some screws ).
3/ Get a fan adaptor and a fan pushing some serious cfm.
4/ Give up ( NOT an option )
I intend to do 1-3 and i have planeed to put in a 92 mm 50-60 cfm fan on my hs with a fan adaptor. But the only one I have found is at www.plycon.com and they may not accept my non-U.S. credit card.
Does anyone know where else I can get one and avoid the hassle of bank orders etc?
Also any further suggestions re: cooling my rig ?:(

I'd try the ASII route. Might be some difference there. Might also be where you're living that's causing ambient temps to be higher than most people around here. But, first I'd try reseating your heatsink with the thermal grease you have now, just to rule that out. I'd definately increase your case air flow as much as possible, if it's cheap, why not do it? Case fans are relatively cheap, and as long as your PSU can handle it, why not?
You could also make the fanadapter yourself. How, depends on you heatsink and the fan you would like to put on it. Make a model and test with cardboard or similar, and make the finished product in thin aluminium, plexi or whatever material you're comfortable working with.
Just remember most fanadapters work best when sucking the air instead of pushing. I'm using a homemade 80mm adapter on my Taisol 760 and working on a adapter/duct with two 80mm for better good cooling
Hey, I've heard that fan adaptors don't work that great and basically yield the same performance as a 60mm fan, except with less noise. Any truth to this or is it bull?
Forget fan adaptors that you can buy from the computer market. Cardboard ones work just as bad so why buy? If you want something that works then this discussion (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?threadid=53664) is worth a read.
Depends on a lot of things.
If your current fan is weak, a larger fan with more cfm's will help temps. But this also depends on wich way the fan is blowing and what amount of back pressure it can work with. Also if you have the fan sucking, a shroud that goes some way down the HS will help. But reduced noise was my reason. I'll do a little Paint work :)
The first is my standard Taisol 760
The second is my current setup. Note that the two short sides are open (as in not covered) This is to reduce back pressure, but at the same time I "loose" some air out there.
The third is how my next adapter will be. The adapder will not be open, and it will go about half way down the HS. This is to make sure the vold air gets sucked in close to the core and have maximum time in contact with the HS
Well the adaptor with the fan blowing down on the HS will work but in no way efficient due to back pressure problems that you have experienced just like with every fan adaptor out there. The design with the fan sucking air thru the HS would probably work a little better BUT you will need a good amount of cool air inside the case for it to work which would be equal to more noise.

Thanx alot for the replies . As far as fan adaptors work ,i figure the one I'm looking at should be better than my setup at present. My fan is rated at 37-38 cfm @ 42-45db I'm looking at a thermal take 55 cfm 92 mm fan or a 60 cfm ystech both with 38-40 db.
i think what some people do is they put on a larger fan which is quieter but has the same or similar cfm , thus with the additional distance they end up with the same or even sometimes less performance. I'll be going for increased cfm ...... less noise is secondary but from the numbers will be a direct benefit.( for you Bonka )
I'll definitely consider Veland's suggestion about pulling rather than pushing.Or i might try making a shield extending from the adapter partially down the hs and thus cut down on spillage.
Sonny, I'm fairly handy but I doubt i'll have the time to fashion an adaptor myself.

Oh yeah Sonny i'll try to check that discussion this pm.
Another thing ....... does anyone knonw anywhere else which has 60 -92 mm adaptors ?
Plycon definitely requires me to arrange a money transfer.:(

Sonny , tell me is that on ur rig right now ?
Yup but a bigger version. 120mm 131CFM with a stack pointed at my DOrb with its own fan.

wouldn't there be some turbulence and lost efficiency form the two fans in tandem ?
Have you ever tried it with just the adaptor fan ?
It's pointed at the DOrb not on top. I use it to direct the airflow towards the HSF. Here is a top view of it;

Keep in mind that air flow itself is very important and with a bigger fan sucking in more CFM. Fan will suck the air around it thus air flow kicks into its job here by doing its job by giving it cool air to suck in.
Try to get more case fans I think you may have too little for such a beast... (-:

Sorry for the late reply ... I've taken everything into consideration and will try to find a nice fan like Sonny's not however the 550 cfm hurricane maker mentioned in this thread. A plastic drink bottle should suffice but all this must wait till I find someone to accept my foriegn visa ccard or God forbid go to the bank and arrange a transfer:(

I too live outside of the USA & find it very convinient to shop on his site.

I am also considering going to an 80mm fan with an adapter. I was doing some research today, and I found 2 more sites that sell 60mm to 80mm fan adapters:
1. CRAZYPC (http://www.crazypc.com/products/fans/fans.htm)
2. Heatsink Factory (http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/product.php?cat=4&prod=60 to 80)
I do not know, however, whether they ship to Barbados.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I found 2 more sites:
1. Overclockers Hideout.com (http://www.overclockershideout.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=o&Category_Code=FA)
2. CoolerGuys.com (http://www.coolerguys.com/cpucool/filtersguard.shtml)
All of these sites have different designs for their adapters. Some seem like they would work more efficiently due less turbulence.
Enjoy!
