I tried to update my pc having a ASUSTek P4SD-VX board with (4) pcs of 512MB DDR PC3200 184-pin RAM. I installed the DIMMs into my pc, but the pc would not boot. It originally came with 2 sticks of 256MB DDR PC2700 ram, so I then put two 512 DIMMs into slot 1 and 3 and the 256 into slots 2 and 4, and the machine did boot. I then exchanged the two installed 512 DIMMs with the other two 512s, and the machine booted again.
It does not seem that the RAM is defective, but I don't know why I can't boot with all four 512 sticks installed. I updated the BIOS to the latest version (AMI 1010).
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
