View Full Version : why duron
can anyone tell me why u would buy a duron when the price diff from a 1.2 duron and a 1.2 athlon is only like 10 bucks at the most??? i mean ive learned to stay away from anything that is lower grade execpt if its about 30 bucks or more cheaper and not that much of a diff from the higher grade (had a celeron and im a gamer need i say more)..?? was just on my mind and thought u would be the best peeps to ask..

Well....
Before, Duron's were alot more cheaper then T-Birds.
Obviously the prices on CPU's have DROPPED.
The site that you've looked at our SITE'(S) Are most likely going to drop those price's buy 20 Dollar's.
So then i'd by a 30 diffrence.
Which....
If your on a really tight budget, that can pay for a soundcard, fans, etc.

The 1, 1.1, and 1.2 GHz Durons are on the new "Morgan" core. It's still 0.18 micron, but has SSE and other instruction sets that the old Spitfire Core did not have. I've seen benchmarks where the Morgan 1.2 outruns a TBird 1.3 (*note: only in certain benchmarks*). Here's a link I found that might help you out.

And being on the new core, they probably offer more overclockability than previous Durons, which were topping out somewhere in the 1.1-1.2 GHz range.
I'm sure the prices will come down on these new Durons as well, since they are the "Value Processors." Right now they're a little expensive, so I'd probably buy a Tbird for the extra $10-$20. (plus, with most AYHJA's, you should be able to hit somewhere around 1600 with ease.)
still dont think i would buy a duron not after that celaron :(
celeron is a striped down p3 the duron was accualy built from the ground up and does perform very good much better then any celeron
yes but i have had bad memorys with a lowered down version of anything.. but never know might get one of these morgons and try to OC with a new board..

I also have celeron 600. My Duron out perform the celeron in every way. I also have overclock the celeron but still get beat.
hmm well if the prices get cheaper on durons i might buy one for my bro and give him my MOBO and go get me one that i can OC on..
