I just got a new DVD burner, an LG Super Multi DVD Rewriter GSA-H55L 20x burner. But when I tried burning DVD's, the computer just freezes. I tried four times with two different softwares, Nero Burning Rom and Jetbee, but the same thing happens with both softwares. I then tried burning a CD and that worked perfectly.

When I tried burning the DVD the first time, I used the maximum allowed write speed at 16x, but the second time it only allowed 12x, so I tried that but it still froze. I'm wondering if choosing something slower like 8x or 4x would help. I'm using TDK DVD+R 16x DVD's and the CD that I used was a generic brand.

have you updated the firmware on the drive? Tried different DVD's?

Even though your burner is capable of 16x you should burn at the lower speeds(4x or 8x)so data isn't corrupted
Also as previously stated above maybe a firmware update

Thanks for the advice, but the drive is still not burning.

I tried updating the firmware to the latest one available on LG's website, and burning at 4x speed, but it still froze.

Is there anything else I can try? Like changing settings in the software etc? As I said earlier, burning a CD at full speed works fine. The drive also reads CD's and DVD's perfectly, it just has problems with burning DVD's. I want to leave trying different brands of DVD's as a last resort since I don't want to waste money on a new batch of DVD's if it won't work either.
