View Full Version : Sudden conflicts after adding second hard drive on same ide channel!
Hey Guys,
Well I just added a 13 gigger a couple days ago, and tonight I moved it to the same ide strip as my other Hd as I installed a dvd player and cd burner on the other ide strip.. anyways, now that I moved the HD it wont show up in windows, its all good in the bios, expect that the hard drive name gets garbeled now and then..
Anyways I'm showing a conflict on my primary bus master, and no matter what I do (Short of removing the 13 giger) I cant get it to go away..
Any Ideas?
I'm wondering if this is a left over vp6 bug :/ - I just installed the latest 4 in 1 and bios as well.
Thanks,

Did you try to switch them around (master/slave)? It turns out to be the simple stuff a lot of the time.

you didn't mention names...but WD and I"m sure a few other's are strange about jumpers.
If it's WD, try removing the jumpers completely.
If it's another brand, you may want to consider trying CS....I've only run in to this once..but turns out this ONE time, that was the fix.
*edit* now I see it in your sig...Maxtors. No exp here with them, but I honestly believe it's a jumper configuration.
Also, you may want to consider keeping the DVD and the CDRW on diff channels...helps a bit for even the burn proof drives.
put one hd and one CD on one channel...the other hd and cd on the other.

I'm pretty sure its not a bug cuz I had something similar with a 40Gb and 13Gb Maxtor HD on my P3V4X, It showed up in bios but not in windows.(13Gb being master and of course 40Gb as slave).
On which connector do you have the drives? (AFAIK the Master drive should be on the end of the cable and the Slave drive on the midle connector).
I don't know how I got it to work (after trying loads of stuff you get kinda confused:p ).
All I can tell you is that I did a format twice.

Whenever the drive name gets garbled during POST, I just wiggle the power connector around a bit. Works every time for me. You might also want to try installing an older version of the 4-in-1's

I used to have a simular problem when 4in1's where comming out every other day, had a hard time getting my devices to reconize and my bus master wouldnt install right, took me forever to get that fixed...
Anyways, yup, they are all on the right plugs.. think I'll try switching them around, but honestly dont see what good that will do if my old HD wont copy over :/
