View Full Version : Is too many watts bad?
I know the PSU only produces what you need, but will the PCP maybe be harmful to this setup?
Q6600 at stock
Antec 900 (for the fans)
nVidia 8800
3 HDD's
1 DVD-RW
The only reason I'm thinking of getting the PCP 750W is because I've heard nothing but good things about them. I know 750W is a lot, but I'd like to have it for a while. :)
Thanks.

bdm,
The only thing it will hurt is your wallet, but at least you are hurting it with quality. If it puts you at ease, go for it.

I am open to suggestions. ;)
Something that will leave room for improvements.

bdm,
You have to be specific on your interpretation of "improvements."
The only major addition to power requirements would be SLI (dual) video cards. Most any other improvement wouldn't make that much difference in those requirements unless you're going to run half a dozen hard drives, etc. The PCP&C 750 would handle almost all SLI combination available now.
If you're not into overclocking, your current rig would run easily on a Corsair 450VX if that answers your question.

Well, if you already know that why ask the question. ;)

If it's way too overrated you won't get the greatest effiency, all psu's have a curve where they are most efficent, and most PSU's have crap effiency at low loads, but i don't see the problem with the 750.

I thought I knew the answer. Doesn't hurt to get it confirmed. ;)

Most, but not all.
There's still plenty of PSU's out there that are more efficient at their worse than other PSU's are at their best.

Even then, half a dozen is a blink in terms of power.
I've got the PCP&C 750W. Had it for about 6 months now. No complaints.
