Hi, I edit alot of video..........and I love the feature in XP that lets you browse to a directory.......and once you are there, it shows a "thumbnail picture" of all the videos.

Kind of like a picture preview of the movie. Well, I hate Media player 7.0 or whatever the heck comes installed with XPpro....

So I switched back to 6.1 media player (i think)........

Anyway, Now I have lost the "thumbnail" feature......it just shows up as a media file.

SO, I switched back to The default player from XP..........BUT, I still don't have the preview pictures LIke I used to.

(AND YES........I do select the "thumbnail" option from the "view" button at the top........that doesn't work either)

So How do I get that thumbnail preview option to work again, and can it work with the older version of Windows Media Player?

Thanks if anyone can help.

Did you just remove Windows Media Player 7.1 or did you remove other things with it?

I didn't remove anything........if you open WMP 7.1 (default XP) if you go to "options' you will find a tab labled "formats"....

In there, if you UNcheck everything..........and hit apply.....windows will not recognize WMP 7.1 as the defualt player for anything.

Now, skip ahead. Open The older Windows Media player. (media player 2 I believe it's called......and STILL installed on XP by defualt you just have to find it)

Go to the same options in WMP2.......and find the formats tab.....
now CHECK everything in there, and windows will play all media from WMP2.

I missed the preview thumbnails, so I did everything in reverse order, and now I don't have the thumbnails anymore. Yet WMP (defualt xp 7.1) is now (again) my default player, and all the formats are checked off.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

A last resort would be to reinstall windows.

PS there is also a filmstrip view...

Try "Check for palyer updates" in about menu. if it isnt a file type problem or the update dosnt work, delete windows media player, than go in the folder it wa sinstalled in and see if anythigns left. If theres anythign in there, delete. than download the latest one, and install. I think its on the xp cd, just hit the advanced features button.
