Sears is offering cheap PCs with Freespire preinstalled:

and a direct link to sears: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00373907000P?vName=Computers+%2526+E lectronics&keyword=freespire

and a link to Mirus Innovations: http://www.mirusinnovations.com/

it's funny (interesting funny) how the Mirus home page says "Mirus PC recommends Microsoft Windows XP Professional." I'd like to see them as a Linux specific OEM.

More good news. :D $284 W/ 1 GIG RAM and a Celeron D is very reasonable.

Not really. But 184 is :) I built my Celeron D system for about 100 bucks (processor was 30, mobo was 35, ram was more then I paid 25 for 512MB, but you can get 2GB for a few bucks more now.. HDD you can get used for ~20 and a cheap psu and case (which this no doubt has) for 40.... cdrom 5 bucks....

But... this is great for people that do not build their own PCs...

I thought this was interesting

"Freespire 2.0, Linspire's community-based Linux, is built on top of Ubuntu 7.10. Unlike GNOME-based Ubuntu, though, Freespire uses a KDE interface. "

When did that happen? Lindows/Linspire was Debian based wasn't it? Why did they switch?

I was a long time supporter of Lindows then Linspire, and Freespire, but the software in CNR got very much out of date. Once they announced they were switching to an Ubuntu base I switched to Kubuntu 7.04 until they came out with Freespire 2.0 (first one to be based on Ubuntu) but I never switched back because Kubuntu 7.10 was almost out. Once they signed a deal with the devil (M$) I never looked back.

I guess if they can get more Linux market penetration than great. But I'm seeing Linspire as not fully on board with everyone else.

Well like I mentioned in my last post, I think they saw they were developing too slowly and wanted to latch on to Ubuntu's fan base. Also it would simplify getting CNR to run on straight Ubuntu thus growing CNR users further. CNR whether or not they are willing to admit it is the future of the company. If they can sell enough commercial software through CNR than that will be their cash flow.
