what are the more popular PSU to be modded?
is there a lot to gain by modding the PSU or is it just an exercise in "see what I did"

People tend to mod PSU's if the 5v rail is low. It does help if you are running say below 4.8 with OC'ing. Some have pots that can be easily adjusted (Sparkle, Antec) while Enermax's do not and need a resistor to be soldered, a big pain.

in one of my rigs i mounted a second 80mm fan in the psu, on the bottom, that one sucks air from the case and the second stock fan blows air out the back

i've seen pics of this awesome mod that consisted of removing the underneath and side portion of the PSU and replacing it with this metal mesh kinda like a metal gate but with a lot smaller holes and then he painted it so you can see inside the psu and it looks a whole lot better than just a grey metal plate, kinda hard to explain so if anyone knows what i mean and has seen it before trry to describe it a lil better

Exactly!
Most people mod PSU's for more airflow. Like cutting out more/bigger vent holes or places for 80 or 92 mm fans.

i modded my psu to have a 92mm fan in the bottem, like an enermax. then the psu blew up (unrelated incedent) and i now have an enermax
