So, I'm buying a house.

I have the perfect little closet on the first floor to shut all of my networking gear in. so my question to you is what should i get. It is going to be a gigabit network first off. and there will be 6 cables run to the second floor, and one run to the first floor to where the tv will go. another cable will be going to the wireless router.

ISP >>> MODEM/ROUTER (combo) >>> ~24 port gigabit switch
.................................................. ............^...............^..........^
.................................................. ............^...............^..........^
.................................................. 6 to 2nd flr | wireless | first floor tv

now i know that is going to leave a lot of extra ports. but i plan on having a lan party about once every 2-3 months so all anyone will have to bring is some cat6 and plug right in. all of the lan parties will be held on the first floor as there is the most room there and it would be the coolest. the closet will litterally be about 20 ft max from the farthest computer. my question is what gear i should get. and what specific switch. parts list would be appretiated

thanks

In this list (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2052810030+115010996+1150210242&srchInDesc=24&name=10%2f100%2f1000Mbps) from newegg I would personally go with the $224 netgear, but are you looking for a managed switch or unmanaged? I'm guessing unmanaged, but I don't know.

Yeah I was going to get an unmanaged switch. and that same netgear was what i was looking at. if im adding it up right, im going to be spending about 500 on my home network. including 1000ft cat6 ends and i dont have a coupler. and whatever else i need

why not run the cable yourself? Buy in bulk from Monoprice and save a bunch.

I reccomend the WRT54G with DD-WRT for your wireless needs :)
