What would your recommend for programming and gamming?

I recommend Win2K as the best current MS operating system, period. The only caveat in my book would be compatibilty with older games/software, in which case I'd say 98se.

2k is fast, stable, ntfs is a better file system, and there are no complications for those of us who change hardware around a lot.

(and Welcome to the Forums, if I haven't already said so!;) )

2000 all the way. On my last reinstall of 98, I got three BSOD's within 30 minutes. If you don't care all that much about stability and care more for gaming, 98 would be the best choice

98se is really good, but it gets less stable with the more programs you add. I'd recomend 2000 out of the 2, but compatibility is a problem. So id go for the unnamed 3rd option:XP. its stable and has the compadibility of 98. But otherwise, 2000. Just cant beat stability.
