View Full Version : A way to possibly get some Folders back to the forum...?

Hey guys, I was thinking about all the people who used to be active here at the forums but no longer are around...
I bet a bunch of them are no longer Folding for us. I was thinking maybe we could send out an E-Mail to anyone that has not been active online for over 9 months or so. Something that would say, "Hey what's going on? We haven't seen you on the forums for a long time and hope everything is OK."
It could stop right there actually. Maybe a bunch would automatically just come back to the Folding section to see whats going on. Or we could add some things about the Folding section in the E-Mail? WHat do you think?
Because it would take too long going through each person's profile to check the last time they've posted anything it would be easier to have a high level forum mod just automatically send something like this out... Is this even possible?

We need to do something!
Do you just want to get them back in the forum, or back to folding as well?
I agree
However I think it is great that we have have the active users as other teams but yet double the points those teams put out :D
I mean IE
-------------------------------------------active-----usertotal-------ppd
1----[H]ardOCP--------------------------1,187----11,914-----1,161,104
3----www.overclockers.com--------------582---- 6,457-------849,316
5----Alliance Francophone--------------1,217----14,112-------449,951
More PPD the Alli F by far but less then half the active members and H has twice the active members but only 1/4 more PPD.
yea maybe we need to bring back so old folders...... I sure do miss alot of them posting in or folding team section...

Well the main purpose would be to get some more people Folding for us. Some people are just not Folding at all I'm sure...other may have just hung out at other forums. A simple E-Mail couldn't hurt to any member who hasn't been active for 6-9 months or so.

I agree and am currently trying to get an old member to start dedicating his folding rigs for us (he quit folding even though he runs his comp 24/7). It can't hurt anything and maybe it'll help get people involved again.

I was thinking about something similar to this idea. Even if all of the folders that have 0 PPD started back up with one rig, we could be smokin by the Aussie's in no time. Not to mention getting MPC off our tail. I have been looking through the list on EOC quite frequently, and noticing some of them logging in lately, talking about very nice overclocks and what not. I started to think, if each of us here now had sent a PM to atleast one person on that list who we can find, that is still on OCF somewhat regularly, there is a good chance that some of them would be willing to put the client back on one of their rigs. It could just be wishful thinking, but I think it could work.

Hell, I'll start, I'm calling you out Thideras! I'm about to pass you and notice you've stopped folding. I know you're around here daily, so what's up? (possibly seti crunching, but folding could use you!)

If I had the time, I would be willing to work up a list, atleast going through a couple pages of EOC at a time. Time is getting pretty cramped as of right now, with my daughter about to be born, trying to get the house ready for her (seems to be a nonstop ongoing process, starting to think no matter what I do it will never be ready for her), trying to keep my family informed of things as they develop, trying to keep the rigs I have folding maintained, and work. I know there are people out there with a lot less time than I have, but I am almost starting to feel like I don't have too much time to myself anymore. Not only that, I wouldn't know where to host it, as I don't have a server. I may be able to work something out, since things are kinda seeming to slow down, maybe I can finally use my office programs that I never use. I'll see how things go.

the list is quick enough to create, just list users by ppd, the problem is names dont tally to forum names and to send each mail indivisulally

Well the list shouldnt be that hard for one of the mods to put together. In fact, couldnt one of the people that runs the forums just do a search for inactive members?
If that isnt possible, we could get a list of all people that have been OC Members at one time or another I'm sure, then subtract the people that were on that Christmas list the "Elves":santa: made and what you have leftover is a big list of people that could potentially be Folding for us...
Tommy, I have that Christmas List of active members. It wouldn't help here, though. It was created ONLY from active folders, so the result of the "subtraction" from the EOC list, would simply be the same as all the inactive folders from EOC. (The list of all our members sorted by PPD, beginning on the page where PPD = 0, you can "printscreen" the page to memory, and then paste it to the editor you like).
As Ben noted, the tough part is not knowing the forum name that corresponds to the folding name on the EOC list. We'd have to get our team historians together on that one.
I miss a few folders: Niksub1, muddocktor, walaka, Macaholic, etc. The one guy I miss the most though: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=211340
Extraordinary folder, but it was the spirit he brought to the team, that I miss the most.

From what I understand, Zim was only here to try to help us get motivated to start cranking our output again. Some of the names I have been noticing that have 0 PPD right now, are Midnight Dream, Silver, Road Warrior, jstutman, ghettocomp, JerMe, brakezone, dz_jad, and flixotide. I don't really think that too many of these members would really be that hard to find. These all have folding names that match their forum names. The next step would be to see which ones have signed on lately, and shoot them a PM. By the way, one of the members that I really miss, is JWS2346. He was a great addition to the forums, really a nice guy. It's too bad things had to get so rough during last years Chimp Challenge. I also miss Pete, as he was always willing to go out of his way to help someone out. I really hope things smooth out for him in RL.
Edit: Also, a bump here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=5441879&posted=1#post5441879) and here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=479032) may also get some of those old members to remember. I know it is a long shot, but I did notice that Thideras did pick his numbers back up, and there is also another member there working on getting his rigs up. I know these threads were getting the monthly bump by h357 and a few other members, but I noticed that the bumps stopped in around August and September, so I decided to dig them up and give them a little nudge. Even if we only get a few new members out of them, it was worth the time to move it back up to the top.

It's scary when I'm approaching 3 biggies that I saw in the top dogs when I started, they are still folding with us but not like they use to, possibly RL too.

I PM'd a few of the names that I ran across in a quickie search, along with the ones AC pointed out to h357 for the Lost and Found thread. Hopefully we can find some of them, and get some of them back into folding action.

Instead of using the toolbox to bring back old members. Which I think is not going to happen.. Have you ever seen this place send you an email besides for subscribes..
Why not bring back the folding mentor program. The excitement of when you first join and you get a PM.. Oh the joy of being loved and accepted.. :D Does the mentor program exist anymore? Is there a person in charge of the team to coordinate everything? Does the team have a direction besides being part of the team..
