xp pro network problem?

if i do the START > NETWORK CONNECTIONS thing, and try double-clicking my lan connection [or any other one, really] to check the status of the connection, and the IP address assigned to the adapter, nothing comes up. never had the problem with any of my other 6 format/installs of this OS. maybe i should take the hint and ditch it?

I had quite a few problems with networking in XP. So I dumped it and went back to the trusty old Win2k.

Lately I've seen a lot of people having networking trouble with WinXP- another reason for me to avoid it!

I haven't even seen XP yet, but one of the recurring problems has been the firewall built into XP: not sure where it is or how to change it...................:)
