My dad has had trouble for a while with the wireless disconnecting and then reconnecting. I thought it was his old laptop/PCMCIA card but the problem pursisted, even got worse when I bought him a new acer laptop for Christmas. A couple weeks ago I noticed the wired side of the router was dropping out so i figured the router was going bad, I replaced it with a WRT54G router. After replacing the router the problem persisted. I started to do some research and realized that the 128bit ecription could cause trouble so i dropped it to 64bit but it still drops out. Any idea what could be causing it?

The computer showing the symtops is an Acer aspire 5315 it is running the latest wireless driver on vista

When you say the wireless disconnects and then reconnects, do you mean that he literally gets a popup that says 'you've been disconnected from you wireless (however vista says that), or do you mean that he just gets page can't be displayed?

If they get the error message... do others get the same drop of wireless? Hopefully no 2.4 ghz cordless phones. also, does your router give you the option of increasing the wireless power?

If you just go to page can't be displayed... could be your dsl/cable modem dropping wan connections, it also could be the dhcp server, could be a lot of things.

More info should help us narrow it down.

Check how old is the firmware on the router. Doesn't this router offer wpa wireless security?
