View Full Version : Stupid Nvidia IDE drivers

So I never installed the Nvidia IDE drivers on my new AM2 Biostar system because I always had problems with them from my NF7-S v2 era system, and figured similarly would be a problem...

So I tried the drivers after I ran out of the 4 onboard SATA ports, and had added a PCI 2 port SATA card... very low transfer rates, figured maybe the Nvidia IDE drivers might help out with DMA transfers or who knows what...

BSOD after install... not even into windows... luckily F8ed and rolled back the IDE controller drivers and all worked smoothly, except now I have even lower transfer rates.

When I'm downloading 1MB/s on my connection, AND extracting a rar file etc... no matter whether it's a drive on the onboard SATA ports or on the PCI card SATA ports, they BOG bad, like might as well not attempt to do anything while one drive is being used. If I extract something while downloading with a download manager, my speed drops from 1.2MB/s to maybe 200kB/s and the extraction squeaks by at 10x the normal speed...

Anyone else have issues with this? I'm afraid to try the SW IDE drivers, but the speed is just awful... Kind of makes me wish for intel ICH9 south bridge... never seemed to have that problem with intel chipsets... And I'm an AMD guy when I can be, I got everyone last round of computer upgrades AM2 and nvidia chipsets... cheaper yes, worth the $$$... suspect.

Go into the Device Manager and check the HD Controllers to make sure they didint default back to PIO mode. If one did, uninstall that controller and restart the PC.
