8800GT 256MB memory overclocking [Archive]

I got a pencil mod for vmem and I still dont know if it is safe above 1000mhz. I know the 512 memory doesnt go well above 1000mhz, but I get the 256MB RAM from 700 to 1000mhz with no problems and I want to push it further but i don't want to kill it.

anyone have any experience with this card over 1000mhz?

Did they fix the pencil mod? (Or a different one for 256MB because of different chips>?, because the extra volts weren't helping before...

I was going to the one on the XS volt mod list for 8800GT's. I guess it doesnt work so I wont bother.

I am about to attempt the vGPU pencil mod, but I will more than likely screw up yet another nvidia card...

edit:vGPU pencil mod didn't work.

Yeah, BIOS or hardmod, take your pick.

OP, the BIOS one is super easy, and the one I would recommend unless you have aftermarket cooling.

The GPU pencil mod doesn't exist. On XS they say not to do it.

If you want to hard-mod do it right (solder a VR), or just forget about it.

I'm not sure about the 256, but the mem on the 512-GT/GTS responds better to less voltage, not more. There is a mod for it, but it doesn't involve a pencil.

Your 3dmark2006 score in your sig seems rather low....What resolution did you run that at?

stock res...you have the 256MB too, what do you score? I got 13xxx with a 512MB

so this RAM is still untested above 1000mhz?
