Artic Silver adhesive. I wanna throw a generic socket 7 hsf on my northbridge in place of the greenie and I don't have any actual thermal adhesive on hand and I wanna do it tonight.

BTW- If I were to drill holes in the heatsink and use the two holes around the northbridge I'd have to use plastic screws to hold it on right?

depends how hot it's gonna be getting, some super glue can start acting funny when it gets warm, and I mean the sort of temps a chip gets got scorching hot. Epoxy is much better and safer.
I've done this with superglue and had no problems but I was corrected a while back by someone about how safe this.
You could do what you sugested with the plastice screws, I'll see if I can dig out a guide on this as I know I've seen one somewhere

thanks! I totally forgot about using normal epoxy instead of superglue, I have some around here somewhere...

BTW- I'd still like to see that guide if you can dig it up

You can use self tapping screws as long as they are smaller than the holes in the motherboard. Use plastic washers to protect your board. If you don't have any washers handy, you can make some from the Lexan in a soda pop bottle.

BTW, most Northbridge chips are concave and will require more thermal compound.
