I am buying a xp cpu soon and have been looking at the data base . The results for the xp1800 seem to be much better than xp1900. There are alot of people reaching 2 gigs or better with the xp1800 and not one xp1900 at 2gigs. The steppings for the better performers are the same in the data base for both cpu types. Anyone with a reason for this? I would be very interested . As it looks right now to me the 1800 is the top dog. Ill probably order that one .
You have to consider the cpu database is not secure in that anyone can post anything.
The best thing is to look at the average overclock and not at the top number.
XP 1800-73 entries, average oc 1769mhz.
XP 1900-19 entries, average oc 1791mhz.

The whole point of overclocking used to be to get faster performance out of slower chips......
My XP1500 cost just over half as much as an XP1800 here in the UK, yet I can get the same performance (slightly more, if truth be told) for half the price.........and I haven't even unlocked it yet!

I will also add that I am very pleased at the low temps the XP's run at (in this case, 39C core temp!)
Yes, I could get an XP1800/1900 faster, but at what cost?

yeah i just wanted to be able to compare to the pentium 4 2.0 ghz
Most of the claims in that section seem to be irrelavant. There is no proof and can be misleading. A few even say post at a certain speed but thats it. I think the section is useless unless more proof such as a screenie is presented.

To me the point of overclocking has always been to get the most of what you have no matter what it is.

I agree with you wholeheartedly!
But for me to spend £100 on an XP1500, and get £200 worth of XP1900 performance is a major attraction to me, being on a tight budget.
I got a 1.1GHz Athlon Tbird and I might just get 1.2 or 1.3Ghz out of it. I might try using the pencil trick to muck about with the multiplier.

yeah well i am trying to get to the point where have one major big overclocking system im going to get a case that has water cooling put a 10gig hard drive in it A cd rom a nive geofrce2 pro 64mb ddr card and pc 2400 ddrram to over clock and see how high i can get the thing to go. That is my whole idea. Yeah i over clock my athlon xp but i dont ever leave it at that becuase i get bored and when i get bored i need to over clock.

being a honest sort myself i didnt think that somone would lie about somthing like that. i guess i can be blind somtimes. im just trying to build my first system and i want to get the most for the money and also not have it obselete in a year. im also going to build a second rig for serious overclocking and screwing with for a new hobby.

On the easier to overclock the lower chips thing remember what was found out about the chip manufacturing process. It is possible that AMDs FAB is so good that all their chips (or a good number of them) are in fact 1900+ being marked down. It is also possible that we are seeing the limits being reached on the XP chips. Tbird maxed out at 1.4 and Palamino is not a radical change in core. AMD is simply stretching the core till their next processor line comes out. If this is true then Reddeathdrinker is absolutely right. The smart move would be to buy the cheaper chips and easily overclock them to the higher settings. "Back to the 300A Celeron logic".

welli find that a really intresting threory but if amd tried to pull that with the athlon xp why would my 1900+ at stock run better then a 1700+ at stock but i just get e little different oc%
