How much can you spend on speakers? The x530's are OK, but definitely nothing super-dooper. If you have a low budget they will probably be OK...if you can spend closer to $100ish you can try to find the z-5300's.

Those are trash. If you want sound quality get a 2.0 system for cheap but a decent one nonetheless... You'll get better sound quality out of 2 ok speakers than 5 crapp ones and a 'subwoofer'

the cheap cheap 5.1 systems sound like someone killing a giraffe with someone blowing into an empty wine bottle in the background IMO.

I have an earlier version of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121122 and I absolutely love them.

Why get a 5.1 system when the sattelites are going to be garbage? Might as well get a 2.1 system with 2 amazing sattelites and a more powerful amp.

If you are into surround sound and care immensely about sound, you should be buying http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121120.

ya if u want a 5.1 computer system then thats the only one I'd even consider...
otherwise get a good quality 2.0 or 2.1 if u must.

I've got the Logitech Z-640 and so does about 5 people I know and we all love 'em. Maybe not the best for an audio expert, but they sound awesome to me.

yeah, the Z series from logitech is bounds above any of their other lines. I think I agree with others' ideas of going with a better quality 2.1 setup versus a low end 5.1 setup.

I'd say spring the extra few $$ and try for the Z-2300's. Or shop around and find the Z-5300's cheap. I got mine for ~$100 a few years back during a rebate promotion.

For $10.00 what do you have to lose. I mean unless you want to spend more money

If they could be purchased for $10, that would be a great deal. But these are discontinued and cannot be ordered from that link.

I took a quick look at logitech's site and see they have G51's which seem to have replaced the Z-5300's. I'm wondering if anyone around here has seen/heard them? The reviews I've seen make them look pretty decent.

hehe. :) if you could actually get them for $10, they would be well worth that price. They are not like tin cans on a string. Sure they aren't all that great, but they aren't so horrible they aren't worth $10. I'd say even $20 would be a good deal. Of course the problem is that shipping would kill those deals.

I guess....

I can't listen to speakers under $400 or earphones under $100... makes my brain hurt...

I can personally recommend the THX certified Klipsch Pro media 2.1 system myself: http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/promedia-2-1.aspx

Any similar system they make I'm sure will sound fantastic.

I picked up mine on sale at Best Buy for $119.00, now I use them more than my $600+ 5.1 surround sound system! Best 120 bucks I have spent in a long time.

I wasn't saying they were bad speakers in any way. I'm sure they are much better than my z-5300's (which I don't consider to be awesome speakers, just worth the ~$100 for which you can buy them).
But I was just commenting on how Theocnoob was being an audio snob in saying that only $400 speakers are worth listening, when his speakers are not $400. Just a throw away post. :)

They were $400 canadian when I bought them. The Canadian Dollar was very low at the time.

i bought my x-540's for $60. They're okay. You get the surround but the sound quality isn't too high. I have onboard so that's not great either.

Just got the M-Audio AV-40's for $119.00 delivered. Comes packed in three different boxes. GREAT sound!

I'm selling my X-530's on Craigs list as I write this that I had prior to these.

The M-40's are better sounding and take up less room on the desk then three of the X-530 speakers let alone the big sub that was under the desk.
