View Full Version : WinXP, Via, and Nvidia
Is it just me or does everyone have problems when combining WinXP, Via, and Nvidia products.
I have WinXP, an Asus A7V266, and a Gainward Geforce3ti200.
After updating from 98 to XP, I encountered many problems.
I installed from a clean formatt, and simply put the 98 cd in when it asked me for previous os.
Win 98 worked perfectly for me, but I figured a new os would do me some good.
Now I cant even play a game without the computer rebooting.
Is there anyone out there sucessfully using these products together, and if so which drivers are you using
Ohh one more thing, winxp tries to install via hardware when the machine boots, what gives?
I have tried everything, I am about to go buy Win 2k pro, or borrow it from a friend. Im not in the mood for buying another microsoft product for some time.
Also how did you manage to get all of this stuff to work?

Same here I use all 3 that u r running with no trouble.
right now I'm using win2k pro.
I switch back to w2k pro because I been using it and love it.
w2k pro and winXP is about the same. if you get w2k you will see that it pretty much the same thing, just different look.
You are not alone Ziggey
There are problems with Via chipsets / Nivida / WinXP & some Sound cards esspecially the Soundblaster range. There is a Bug & it seems to have something to do with PCI Latency timing & other issues?
The main chipsets being 266/266a. Via are aware of this problem & are trying to fix it. See www.viahardwaredotcom
I had no problems with my VideoLogic Sonicfury in Win98SE but could`nt get the Audigy to play properly. But since moving to WinXP I have problems with the Media player ( Stuttering ) & also playing CDs.
I have all the latest drivers including the new Santa Cruise which I got yesterday.

XP and VIA aren't getting along with a lot of hardware. The new 4 in 1's helped some, but not enough to call it a success.
XP on a Gigabyte GA-7ZX with the KT133 chipset, runing a GeForce2 MX 400 and sounblaster Audigy. I left the default VIA 4-in-1 drivers from XP (I read that XP has them resident, and you shouldn't upgrade unless you're having problems, and I don't feel like rebooting a whole bunch of times to test...), and the latest (23.11?) NVidia drivers.
The only problem I have is when I try to burn a CD and listen to MP3s, the sound quality is **** poor, and there is noise and skips. Not sure why that is. I use Nero to burn CDs, and have a Queue 24x10x40 CD-RW.

What are the latest Via's? And should I use them with Windozzze:beer: XP? As last time I installed them I had to re-format and reload Windows grrrrrrrrrrrr.
I am using WinXP Pro, Via 4 in 1 drivers (4.37a), Sound Blaster Live, and GF3 Ti200...No Problem at all and it runs freaking smoothly.

I've had no problem & i'm running WinXP home edition with VIA KT266A chipset along with a Gainward GeForce3 but i have downloaded the newest drivers for everything that might make a difference. From what i have heard of there have not been to many problems with the three working together other than some crashing when the newest Nvdia drivers are not loaded ?

im using xp/IWILL kk266 which is VIA and nvidia herdules ultra and using the default drivers havent had a single problem.
i think its the version you are using.
do you know what version you have?
im using xp 2600 corporate and i ve also had the same success with the normal retail version.no sound issues as others mentioned either. totally stable
As you all know I have been having trouble with the A7V266-E/WinXP/Geforce 3/Sound card
Today I Defraged "C" Drive & when I again played the Media player in Windows it was much better, not perfect but exceptable.
This might be worth trying if you are having sound issues & have all the latest drivers.
As I have said before Via are aware that there are problems & I`m sure they will sort it soon.

This could be useful info:
I spoke to a Via engineer (lost the link sorry) and he said he'd tested SB Audigy's on WinXP with the Via chipset and said he had found the problem when using Via Chipsets.
Using the updated drivers he said to NOT install Creative Playcentre as that is what was causing the problem.

I figured out what the via hardware install thing was.
After I put in the asus cd with the via drivers on it, XP started trying to add via hardware after each reboot.
I recently reformatted and did not install the via drivers off of the cd. I left the via drivers in that came with xp. It fixed the add hardware thing, but still 3dmark 2001 will not run.
I installed the most recent via drivers off the internet, but 3dmark still crashed. Ohh and the via drivers off the net worked. XP didn't try to install new hardware.

According to Sandra, I have XP ver 5.1 build 2600.
I have added all the critical updates etc.
Win98 ran 3dmark 2001 perfectly, XP crashes at random, and with different types. Sometimes it crashes back to the desktop. Sometimes I get the corrupted file or it simply locks up, screen freez. After a minute XP goes back to the desktop and said my 3d card was responsible. I have tested 2 3d cards, both geforce's and pretty new. Im sure my 3d cards are fine.

I am having the same problem but when I exit the game. I have loaded all the current drivers and reloaded three times and get the same message that my video card is causing the problem. This has happened on Gothic, Diablo2,The Sims, and Wheel of Time. They look great while playing but as soon as I exit the game, Crash City.
I am using:
8KHA+ w XP1700+ not overclocked(yet)
Xtasy Geforce2 Ti 200
XP Pro.
I havn't checked the link that was placed earlier in the thread but am going there after I add another person to the conflict problem tally.

Well I went to the link posted earlier and yes it looks like there is a fix but the post on the linked forum is a linke to a german site.
No frigin sprecken se deuch!
I have also talked to a few freinds in the industry and they have also heard of this problem. A couple of them feel it is not a VIA problem but a problem with how EPOX has put it into their boards. They also said there might be a patch for a latency fix which might be the solution to the problem.
And dose any one think that using the version of the Beta Bios that is producing great FSB speeds will help with this issue.

It ceratinly is worth a try, funny though how the (unstable) 8500 works perfectly with my 8KHA+ and Win XP!!
It could be all sorts of things though, I mean even different brands of memory can make a difference sometimes.

I have just found the PCI Latency patch over at ViaHardware.(http://download.viahardware.com/vlatency_v019.zip)
I have also downloaded the Beta Bios 8KHAL00.bin and am going to try them out, but i am looking for another source to get a bootdisk with no drvers on it. A link in another thread sent me to bootdisk.com but the link on their site will not load.
Dose anyone have another source for this or another method for flashing the Bios.
