Just bought a P III 650 and it needs a heatsink I want a good in other words (best) price to performance ratio but nothing that sounds like a harrier jet in a box.

I used a Thermaltake golden Orb cooler made for P3s when I had a 500mhz. It kept the temps very low...somewhere around 25-28

It was real cheap and quiet too.

The absolute best would be the Alpha P3125. I have it and it rarely lets my CPU go over the case temperature. It also isn't very loud with less powerful fans. Right now I have 27cfm fans rated at ~30db. It's nothing close to a Delta, but I can still hear a faint whine. Another good, and cheaper, alternative would be the GlobalWin VOS32. I haven't personally used it, but it is the second most recoomended since it performs well and is still fairly inexpensive.

The Orb, however... Well... It sucks... A lot. If you plan on overclocking, The Orb isn't a very good HSF to go with. It is fairly cheap, but it's only slighty better than the stock PIII heatsinks (Maybe 7° difference, my P3125 has a difference of about 17°).

From what you want (performance : price), the VOS32 looks like the winner. You can still get the P3125 with some quiet fans, but the heatsink itself is about $35

Please remember he is limited to the SLOT 1.

He cannot hang a cooling brick off it like we do with our sockets.

The P3125, VOS32, and Golden Orb are Slot 1 heatsinks

It depends on what fans you get for them

yes, the global win and alpha use quite fans and can be swapped for louder or even quieter ones because they take standard design fans.

the orb however is ok for slot 1 cooling as not much heat is given off

I'm lovin' the VOS32, nice 'n' cool.
I really don't know how loud it is 'cause I can't hear it over all of my case fans. I can verify that it will take any standard 60mm fan.

Just make sure you have enough room for your DIMMS. My P3B-F has 4 slots. 2 of which are blocked off, that VOS32 is HUGE!!!

Ever seen and alpha P3125? It's the quintessential cooling "brick". Paint it red, put some mortar around it and slap it to the side of your house, and you'll never see the difference.

Hey, I thought it was funny- and a good comparison too
