I'm new to this Forum & Overclocking basically and I would like to achieve 650MHZ on my Celron500. I have an Abit K6 Motherboard and was wondering if this was possible. My Original Settings was 500(66(1/2) and today I overclocked it 63MHz. Now it is stable as a rock at 563(75(1/2). I tried to go even further to increase the clock speed to 100(1/3) but no luck. I just got a blank screen. Now I have no additional cooling units.
I am using the heatsink provided with my Celron Proccesor. The computer is about two years old. It has a 235V Power Supply and just an AGP slot (Voodoo3 2000) and PCI Slot (SB LIVE 5.1!) installed. My temperature ranges from the 30s-40s. So What I'm basically asking is if it is possible to reach an 150MHZ increase without additional cooling units and how to do it. What does the number beside the clock speed mean 66(1/2) and 100(1/3) mean? I have a pretty good case now with holes punched through and two PCI Slots open for cooling.
My core voltage is at default of 2.0V. Now for some reason It doesn't work with 100(1/3). My multiplier setting is at 6.
I don't want to go intensive overclocking. This is all I got for along while. Should I flash my Bios first before I attempt to Overclock. Also How would I to Flash my Bios. I downloaded the latest Updates It comes with 6 files (awdflash.exe,va63d.exe,Va6_3d.bin,Abitfae.bat,Run me.batVa6_3d.txt) The text file just doesn't explain much.
So Can you guys help aa guy with no experience out?
Thanks a lot.
Welcome to the forums! I'm not very familiar with Intel cpu's, but you may have hit the limit for the stock cooling. The fraction next to the bus speed refers to the divisor for the PCI bus. So 66(1/2) would give you the normal 33mhz PCI bus speed, as would 100(1/3).

if it doesnt even boot at 100fsb then the only remedy is better cooling, if it can get into windows try upping th core voltage...but im sorry if you want to be safe and make your cpu last better cooling is good, also cooling is the most essential factor when overclocking.....i suggest you buy a golden orb for like ten bucks and you may be able to get your cpu sky high (it isnt unheard of to get a Celly 500 to like 800 with proper cooling)...
and welcome to the forums..
With my 500 dual setup i found 563 to be the limit with both processors using generic coolers and thermal paste. I was able to run stable at 600 with voltage set at 2.3v using a Golden Orb heatsink and thermal paste.
600 is basically your limit with the old celerons on air cooling.

Ok Thx alot. So the number beside the clock speed really doesn't matter right as it will always give the 33Mhz Bus Speed? One more thing I thought Golden Orb's overclocking days were over or something I read through the Faqs. Or is it good enough for a Celron 500. What would be the best fan as of now and would I need to install a new heatsink for better cooling? I guess I better install a new fan before I move on.
Whats a nice temperature for a Celron 500 to be running at when Overclocked.
Thx alot again.

the golden orb while not good enough for most coppermine PIIIS is very good for older PPGA celerons.....i dont think its worth spending 20dollars for a heatsink on such a slow cpu...
The 1/2 or 1/3 beside your FSB is like was said, the PCI bus divider. Your PCI will only be exactly in spec of 33 MHz at 66 or 100 FSB. At 75 FSB the PCI bus will be half of 75 or 37.5 MHz. Another option to try is 83 FSB if 100 doesn't work, although that runs the PCI bus quite aways out of spec.
Getting to 650 MHz with a Celly 500 is a difficult if not impossible job. Probably no way to do it without lots of cooling mods and an increase in core CPU voltage. I would not go any higher than 2.2v with the stock retail CPU cooler. One thing you might try if you absolutely don't want to buy a good CPU cooler is to remove your old heatsink and clean off the goop or heat tape and apply a good thermal paste. Radio Shack has silicone based thermal paste that works pretty good for real cheap. Arctic Silver is about the best, but it's much more expensive.

Mine ran at 44C under full load @600 2.3v and avg temps are generally 35-45C unless your chip runs really cool

I think you'd better read the batVa6_3d.txt first. I think this txt file will show you how to flash your BIOS. If this is an ABIT board, I think what you need to do is just boot up ur system by a clean Dos mode (no autoexex.bat or config.sys files). Then, run Runme on A:\>
It's all shown in the txt file. You just read it carefully and follow the instruction.
ummm was that a question nuciles???
or maybe an answer:D

The first paragraph was a quote from Wardemon. I just don't know how to quote the sentence as what you guys did. And, the last two paragraphs were my answer. = )
just hit the quote button
