What kind of PPD can I expect running an E2200 on Linux SMP?
Thanks.

Ah, that doesn't sound too bad then, Fry's has a deal for one of those and a 945 board for $78 plus tax. It'd be a hell of a lot better folder, overclocker, and use of electricity then my lousy socket A.
yea its a dual core so atleast you will be able to run the SMP :D
my guestimations could be off but I'm sure it will be better then a socket a.

Even my stock 4300 (2.4-ish) runs a smp wu with 70% time remaining.

L2 Cache 1 MB
L3 Cache N/A
Clock Speed 2.2 GHz
Front Side Bus Speed 800 MHz
From Intel's web site.
I don't know, given 1 MB of cache how fast this will be. My MacBook Pro (old skool) has a 2MB. Cache 2.16 Ghz processor and it does 38-40 mins/frame.
that's about 66% of the max time allowed.
With 1MB cache on the SMP unit, I don't know.
Isn't there a web site out there that has PPD/Ghz per processor listed? I seem to remember seeing one.
I don't know that the cpu in question will be able to return smp WU's before their deadline, or not.

I'm not sure what the core is on that, Merom, maybe?
(click on the upper left side for individual cpu's data.)
I believe you have to clock it above 3.0Ghz to make the deadlines for SMP.
I'll see if I can find the thread.

So all fine and dandy for 2653s, 2604s, and 2605s, but forget about it making deadlines with 2609s and other cache intensive units?
Clocking the chip to above 3 GHz should be doable (the mobo should be able to do that with no sweat, not sure about the chip though), but it looks like it's probably best to pass on this particular deal and wait until Fry's offers a E4XXX/mobo combo for under $80.

I have 3 new folders with the chip in question running SMP and the average time that I am seeing is 34 minutes per Frame. That will take it about 57 hours per WU and I am getting 770'ish on PPD so far.
Now mind you these machines have been running for 2 days (per the Fry's deal) and so far 1 WU at 776 each has finished, sent and I received the points update. Now the WU they were working on was the 2653 and the current units are also 2653 so for now I will let them fold and keep an eye on them. Oh they are stock speed as I am warming up my closet too much and the wife is bitching.

Ben, did you see the Q6600 and mobo for $258.99? It might not be a good overclockin' board, but it would still make the deadlines!
When I bought my last one there, I told the counter guy that if it was a SL9UM, I wasn't going to buy it. I told him to bring me a SLACR and I would buy it. He brought me one!

I saw it, I'd sure like to have one (and I'll surely need at least one to have any hope of making the top 50 on this great team) but I'm waiting for a quad combo for under $200, like they had on Black Friday. :(

Yeah, I wish I had gotten one of those deals!!! I just didn't want to go deal with the crowd, though!
But, that $258.99 price is $30 cheaper than the exact same combo before Christmas, which is when I bought mine. :bang head
