I have just recently got a new Celeron 1ghz with a Gigabyte
ga-6vxc7-4x motherboard. This motherboard can support upto 150mhz fsb, but I am not aiming for that though, I just want to go to 1.33ghz with a 133mhz bus. This motherboard uses the Via Appollo Pro 133a chipset. Right now I'm running everything in stock form. I am using the reatil HSF that came with the CPU and everything is really cool. The bios reports below 40 and when I touch the heatsink it is not just cool but actually cold. I live in Canada and my basement is so cold I always have a blanket over me. And also I am currently running my case open.

I would just like to know if whether or not it is advisable for me to go from a 100mhz to a 133mhz bus. Everything will stay the same, like the pci will still run at 33mhz and the agp will still be at 66mhz. I really want to overclock this system bad!! I used to have a celeron 300a@466 before on an abit bx6rev2 and that thing worked flawlessy. I wanna see the 1.33ghz POST up!!!

Do you peolpe think I should?!?! Thanks a lot in advance!!

PS This forum is very nice... very simple and there aren't a whole bunch retards ruining it like in Madonion. No offense to the MO posters...very helpfull site as well.

Welcome to the forums! I'd say go for it, it might not work, but as long as you're careful with the voltage and monitor temps, nothing should go horribly wrong.

Ya if you can manage to keep the ambient and room temperature cool as you said, that will definitely help. You still might need a better HSF especially when u put your machine at full load for extensive period of time or gaming for hours etc.. Expect to increase the Vcore as needed. Im not sure if the default vcore will shove it.. And as well all know, higher Vcore and higher OC will increase the CPU temp gradually. I think it's quite do-a-ble hitting 133fsb with it. Those Celey 1Ghz OC quite well.

Remember how I said that my Heatsink was cold to the touch, even in the bottom, do you think that I could of had done something wrong intalling the hsf. I have had a few lock ups already, ones I cant figure out and the rest were just pushing my crap vid card to the max.

I am asking this because the cpu had some leftover thermal goop or whatever from a previous installation at the store. The guy was showing me how to put it on. I having too much of that stuff bad...well its not really too much. My games dont lock up on normal basis though. I have only had it for 3 days...should I let it burn a few more days??

I think I will overclock this sucker soon. Just need some more reassurance!!

Yeah the HS can easily be not installed properly. If it isn't installed and leveled good, there will be less contact on the CPU core and the base of HS.

You must clean off the previous goop that is on the HS. Never leave any kind of goop and reapply another goop and install. Clean off nice n clean and apply ASII. ASII is good stuff.

your temps sound decent...they need to be improved....

133 will be pushing it and i wish you luck, it may take you a while to get your CPU maxed out, it took me 3 months [or more] to get mine where its at. To get the most you will need a good all copper HSF, good case cooling the right memory and most of all luck but you should try to get that baby up there :) If your temps are below 40C i could see your HS being cold to the touch, remember this your not touching the center where the heat is being transfered so it may be installed rite but without the proper thermal compound application. At this time all i can say is to get your BIOS optimized, try www.rojakpot.com and go through there guide and with the VIA chipset make sure you have sideband disabled in your registry, oh and also remember to put a decent HSF on your northbridge.

Thanks alot for the help guys

I probably will be getting new cooling very soon... what do you people think is the probability of me hitting 1.33ghz?

And also what is the cheapest cooler do you think I can get to cool this cpu down.

I have written down some stuff on the cpu:

01 Malay
Q142A863-0021
SL5XQ

Is this a good cpu you think?

P.S. I am very sorry for all the questions, it is just that I dont intend to fry such a new chip and rigth now I am broke as hell so I cannot replace it.

Oh yah, Thanks again a whole bunch!!

as long as you dont raise CV to high you wont fry your CPU. With an all copper HSF you stand a good chance of getting close but your asking allot. I would not expect it would make it first time you try but with some patients who knows as all CPU's will overclock differently even the same make and stepping.
