View Full Version : Incompatible ram?

I (in my infinite wisdom) purchased 2x1gb ram modules on ebay. I now wonder if they are even compatible with my ultra-d or infinity ultra DFI boards. They are labelled as high density. When I had first installed them the pc ran for a few hours and then crapped out. I think my cpu is toast so I am waiting for a replacement.

Is it possible the high density ram boned my A64 3000 mem controller? I had 2x512mb samsungs and they worked great. This other set is also samsung so I assume they should be ok.

Before the pc went for a crap it showed the 2x1gb fine enough but when I added the 2x512mb she went south. I have since tried a DFI infinity ultra with a OCZ stealth Xtreme 600w power supply and still no go. So I'm waiting for the cpu next.

I have some spec sheets for the samsung chips and both appear to be okay. But I am having second thoughts about the sheets because they say 256mb and 512mb chips for the model numbers of the 512mb and 1gb chips I have.

Has anyone had bad experiences with high density ram? I think I'm just going to use the 2x512mb for a while first before attempting the 2x1gb sticks. I'm scared that I will F*** another cpu with this stuff. Any thoughts are more then welcome. Thanks a bunch!
