View Full Version : GMA 3000 VS 9800 Pro
thinking about buying a prebuilt with the GMA 3000 onboad video. the system it is going to replace has a 9800 pro AGP so i cant swap it over...
will the GMA 3000 provide equal performance to the 9800 pro untill i can get something better?

Unfortunately, no. Like all current onboard video it is no match for a decent video card such as a 9800 Pro. The GMA X3000 on my 965 mATX board gets a 3DMark01 score of 5500, while the 9800 Pro in my Socket A system gets a score of around 14000 in the same benchmark. The 9800 might even be bottlenecked by the CPU in my AMD system, the GMA X3000 in my intel rig has no such excuse.
Yes he is right, you still.... for some reason or another cannot compare on board to an actual video card yet, even though its a good what.. 6 years old ?

yeah, i doubt even the 790G or the 8200 could beat the 9800pro... so the answer is no, even old videocards are better than "high-end" on-board.

A GS780 is about as good as a 9800pro in 3dmark05 both get around 2500
