Crummy performance in KOTOR

so I am trying to play through KOTOR again,b ut I am getting rather crummy performance. The game is playable, but noticably choppy. This strikes me as odd as the computer I am running it on now is significiantly better than the computer I originally ran it on. There are also some rather interesting issues I get when running the game in windows xp on the new system compared to windows vista.

Windows XP: Choppy performance, graphics look really wierd unless I restrict the game to only run on 1 core.

Windows Vista 64 bit: Choppy performance (guessing in the 10-15 range of FPS)

I am running the latest patch of kotor (1.03) and also running the latest graphics drivers on both OSs

Current system: Opteron 170 @2.5Ghz
2gigs ram
7800GTX

Any help would be appreciated

Maybe it's too powerful of a system? Prolly not the case, but a possibility I suppose.

For whatever reason it doesn't run well in vista. I've seen it happen on several vista computers that would run it well on xp, but you shouldn't be having any problems on xp. I can't help you there.

I have run games where the system is to fast before but on all those games I have experianced an effect where everything goes way faster than it should.

This is different, its like the computer barely meets the requirements...except for the fact that it far exceeds them

Are you using compatibility mode?

I just started using compatibility mode and it is working great now.

It just strikes me as odd that the game works great with windows vista pretending to be windows xp, when the game barely runs on my acutal copy of windows xp
