Hey all!

I just built my new rig, and I'm seeing temps of 82C when I just leave atiTool's spinning cube open (temps verified by rivatuner and atiTool)!

From what I've been reading, these temps aren't that uncommon... is that true? What are you guys seeing?

Ive been looking at 3rd party coolers, and of course theres always the expensive Zalman... but then I saw someone who suggested this setup:

ARCTIC COOLING Accelero S2 VGA Cooler (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186017)
and
ARCTIC COOLING Turbo Module Sleeve Dual VGA Fan (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186021)

What do you guys think of this setup; Can you suggest something better?

Also, what do you guys use to OC? atiTool doesn't work in Vistax64 yet, but it looks like rivatuner might.

Thoughts?

Raise the fan speed via RivaTuner and you will see the temp go down quite a bit. That is, if you can stand that whiny fan ;)

That Accelero is pretty popular. If you strap a couple 120mm fans to it, you got a pretty sweet, and pretty quiet cooler.

What about this for fans:

I don't see why those wouldn't work.
They don't have a sound rating, so no idea how loud they are, but at 42 CFM can't imagine they are that loud.

what/how would you recommend?

I've heard good things about these:
Scythe S-FLEX SFF21D 120mm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185004)

How many would i need (1 or 2), and how do they attach?

Try cranking the fan speed up 1st before you throw down some cash. If you have the newer revision model w/ the larger fan you can crank it to 100% and it isn't loud at all.

If you do decide to go w/ an aftermarket cooler don't expect to be able to OC any higher. You might get a little bit, but again, don't count on it.

For a higher OC you can do the 1.1v BIOS mod, and you can still use the stock cooler w/ that mod w/o any issues.

Any idea if that voids an EVGA warranty?

Probably. I've already gone past any kind of warranty claims w/ the hard-voltage mods I've performed on my card(s).

I know you can flash the card back to your original BIOS very easily.

Remember that the GT runs at 1.05 stock (1.1v w/ the mod), and the GTS runs at 1.15v using the same core. So, the core can take a little more juice. I've got 1.35v going to mine now!

If you shipped it back to them with the BIOS mod, then probably.

Hey, I too have a new EVGA 8800gt. It runs 50c idle and around 57c at load, or at least thats what Ntune monitor says. Before installation I removed the heatsink/fan, cleaned the GPU with Arcticlean and applied some MX-2 Themal paste. I also cleaned all of the memory chips and mosfets. Though no paste was applied to these since they were all uneven to the sink thus causing EVGA to use themal pads.

Is it wise to use Ntune and Rivatuner at the same time? Should Ntune be removed? I have read that Ntune doesn't increase your fan speed when told too. I believe I am experiencing this.

Just use one at a time, Rivatunter ftw.

Ntune just bugs out for me, and always will I suppose. Did you atleast put the thermal pads back on the mosfets and mem chips?

I agree here. turn up the fan via riva tuner. I just got mine and it has the new larger fan. 100% isn't very loud at all but I have it at 65% which is all I need. I idle at about 46 and load between 67-68 at the most. That works fine for me.

Hey BlitzPuppet

Yeah they stayed on the heat sink. I've used this type of pad before, very nice. I actually called a company up that makes this type of pad and said my company was looking for a better heat transfer material and they sent me a crap load of samples. "in different thicknesses". Heck that was like 5 years ago and I still have some.. :-)

I was actually able to get ntuner to change the fan speed after all. I wont really need either for fan speed after I reconnect my TEC's. I have an old Koolance PC3-720 water cooled case that Im gonna remount the cooler onto my new Cosmos 1000. Use that to cool the North/South bridges along with the voltage regulator. Then use my Siftech MCW6500-T, and MCW60-T to cool my CPU and GPU. Im just running this thing on air to make certain it all works. Also waiting for Koolance to make changes to one of their blocks so it will fit on the EVGA 780i MB.
