Hand cleaning the CPU ?

My new SK6 HSF came today. But before I attach it I have to clean the thermo stuff ( came on the with my currently attached HSF as a square rubbery stuff on the cpu side ) off it. I'm guessing pure alcohol solution would be a good thing to use to clean the cpu chip ( and I have some of that anyway ) but I'm not quite sure how to do it or excactly what to use.

Just dip a cotton swab into the alcohol and use it to scrub the goop off. If the goop you have is not disolved by alcohol, then use nail polish remover.
Use several swabs to get it good and clean.
