Hey guys,

It's about that time when I need to put the stock cooler back on my card. what is the best paste to use on the gpu and pads for the rest.

As for the thermal pads, if you all so know what online stores sell them, would be of great.

Thanks for your help,

Dean.

a nice thin coat of AS5 should do the core - i'm lost on the thermals for the ram and such. i know there was a thread going for a while in the cyber deals section...

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=544844

but i don't know what shipping would be to the ol' NZ.

Yeah I'd say AS5 is the go for the core, it's really the ram etc I'm not sure on.
I'm sure I've read you need 1.0 mm pads, only thing I can find that looks like what I'm after is this (http://www.petrastechshop.com/ekrevoretimp.html), just not sure if there's something better to use.

Replacement voltage regulator TIM pads for the EK-FC8800 GTX waterblock. Pre-cut and ready for application, these nifty little TIM pads have many uses!

sounds like a winner to me boss. :)

sounds like a winner to me boss. :)

thoes thermal pads are the itty bitty small ones on the vregs (about 5mm x 5mm)

Ill tell you what i did... i replaced all the thermal pads and the stock tim... obviously i went with AS5 on the core but i had a hard time finding thermal pads. BUT i did find some cheap ones on ebay... they are from Arctic Cooling's RMA dept on ebay.

http://search.stores.ebay.com/Arctic-Cooling-RMA-parts_thermal-pad_W0QQfciZQ2d1QQfclZ3QQfsnZArcticQ20CoolingQ20RM AQ20partsQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsaselZ238123228QQsofpZ0

I bought like a total of 50 pads from them for 11 bucks or so... they shipped from hong kong and were here within a week and a half.

I ended up using 1.0MM pads on all the ram and the extra chip by the connectors on the card, then i used .5mm pads on the vregs (i took one pad cut it in half so i had 2 13mm x 6.5mm pads and put them length wise on the gfx card to cover all of the vregs in each row...)

I also ended up gettin some small plastic washers (like .6-.75mm thick) and used them on all the skrews so it would compress the thermalpads and get better contact all around.

Thanks nd4spdbh2

I'll order some 1.0 and .5's later today.

hey nd4spdbh2 what kind of diff in temps did those replacements make vs stock?

hey nd4spdbh2 what kind of diff in temps did those replacements make vs stock?

all the components that require thermalpads dont have temp sensors... so i dunno, but a horribly crappy application of AS5 on the core netted a good 5-8*C decrease in temps.

Note... when ur going to apply the AS5... get out a blowdryer... heat up the heatsink / core and as5 tube and apply hot the stuff will spread very nicely.

3M sells exactly what you're looking for, it is 1 mm thick and is recommended by their technical representative, with whom I consulted a few weeks ago.

The product code is 3M (TM) 5590H, I used some to replace the stuff on the memory chips on a 8800GTX I sold a month ago.

PM me and I'll tell you where u can get some as you cannot buy directly from 3M.

its probably gonna be alot more expensive than 50 cents for 4 13x13mm pads that use good 3M thermal Adhesive and TGLOBAL gap filler.

BTW just so you guys know on arctic coolings site its 5 dollars shipping on up to 3 different items... so u can order a bunch of 1mm and .5mm and pay 5bucks shipping.

Do you know what that stuff from Hong Kong is, I would insist on a PDS (product data sheet) with some thermal properties etc, if you put poor quality stuff in it will negate the low cost even if it is for free, just a word of caution (I'm sure you know is :))

its the same stuff that Arctic Cooling ships with their vga coolers... i can tell you right now just by the density of it that it is far better than the crap pads that come on the G80's stock. but ill do some google searching for ya.

But i will say this again... the adhesive is made by 3M, and the gap filler is made by TGLOBAL... the cheapest place i have found to get TGlobal gap filler is from Farnell... for a 150mm X 150mm x .5mm pad (of their lowest grade 2.2W/m.k) your looking at 17.25 USD ... thats without adhesive also... and if you want thicker stuff the price increase is quite astounding..

That material that comes stock with the cards is absolutely horrible. It's literally some sort of crappy grease that takes a while to get off even with 90% alcohol, if you're trying to get an aftermarket TIM to stick to the ram.

not on the Jetway it isn't , there it's a good pad with a white side(heatsink side) and a red side(which doesn't stick)

easy to take off (sticks on heatsink) and if you want to put the stock heatsink back on you won't need to buy new pads

btw, 50 pads for 11 bucks is impossible with the price they sell them(unless there's more then 1 pad per auction :p )

Doesn't appear the Arctic Cooling RMA (http://search.stores.ebay.com/Arctic-Cooling-RMA-parts_thermal-pad_W0QQfciZQ2d1QQfclZ3QQfsnZArcticQ20CoolingQ20RM AQ20partsQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsaselZ238123228QQsofpZ0 ) EBay source currently has the 1mm pads. Just see 1.4mm and 1.5mm.

Edit - nm - was digging some more and saw nd4spdbh2's suggestion to double up .5mm pads for 1mm. :D I see an order to these guys in the near future.
