hey all, i am having driver issues with my LG drdrw drive. winxpx64 is only seeing it as a cdrw drive when i try to copy a dvd using DVD Decryptor. my driver currently is JL05 which i think is old and needs updating, anyone know where i can find a current driver for this drive, I can't find the drive or driver for it on the LG website, windows won't find a better driver.

also does anyone know of any good free dvd writing software for making backup copies of my movies at home so i can preserve my originals? thanx--Thing

Looks like you're talking about firmware and not drivers as I found out that is what it is. Windows doesn't need drivers to run an optical drive on a motherboard's PATA port. Either way, you have the newest firmware, and it shouldn't be the cause of drive recognition problems.......typically. How does Vista see the drive within the Device Manager and File Explorer? A CD-RW or DVD-RW? It could just be a software issue.

using win xp x64, i can't load anything other than a standard cr rom driver see details below:

microsoft
date - 10/1/2002
version - 5.2.3790.1830
microsoft windows component publisher

xp x-64 won't show me anything but cd rom driver to install, identifies drive as a dvd ram, dvd decryptor says it is a cdr/rw drive, i just went to asus and downloaded the latest bios and chipset drivers for mb (p5n32sli deluxe)- there has to be a reason windows is recognizing it only as a cdrom drive. the only thing different about my configuration is i recently switched to a raid config using two sata raptors.

I'd put the drive on the Silicon Image controller and see what it gets recognized as. Since this problem started with your RAID setup, maybe the port configuration is not agreeing with the drive.
