8800 GTX. A recently purchased used card.

Tested it stock. All went well. Couldnt get over 650ish core on air.

Doing a run on LN2on the 8800 tonight. Everything going well to start, but the dang card wouldnt clock pat 655! Im currently using Rivatuner version 2.06. Id set 700, and it would autoset back to 655. Same thing for 750. Tried to startup at higher than clock speeds and would auto to default clock of 600.

Now I cant even get it past 600 at all......

Do I just need to clean the drivers and then reinstall? I would test it, but the superbowl is starting and my family is complaining for me to get on the bbq allready (:D) so I figured Id take this little break to gather info before I go back to test later.

Something else?

Thanks!

Could be a number of things, or it could just be the max for that card on stock air/volts.

Just no vmods for your first run or two :p.

All the best tonight mate :)

Hehe, you tried 750 (756 true) on stock air/volts, you need to eat some of that BBQ, as you have had one to many

I'd say it is driver based since it is setting them back...the only time I've ever seen that was on my 7800gt with the newest driver (years ago), rolled back to some older ones and it worked.

Something to try

could also just be a bunk card... it seems that they lose it after a while.

run gpuz , im wondering if it might have gotten the early non-ocing core. for that speed they are suppling it more voltage than GTS 320/640, i would then think it could clock more. its not the drivers, they wont affect ocing from what i have done in the past...though i thought it was odd to read some people stating drivers helped in ocing..

the only thing i can really think of is the core and on the other hand, try ATITool? i never recall rivatuner working for me when ocing, thus i used ATITOOL.

Even though it runs all of 3D06 fine at stock, boots well and looks good?

All it does it autosetback to a lower clock. First to 655, but as of last testing (90-120 mins ago) stock 600.

Ok well....it is NOT going well at all :(

Cleaned the drivers out. (drivercleaner pro). Reinstalled same 169.21 latest WHQL release drivers again.

Opened up Rivatuner 2.06 and set to 668 right off the bat. Just a random pick. It goes right to 668! Very nice. Then I choose 700. GPU-Z still shows 668. :(

It seems I can change the clock settings after a clean driver install once, and then it wont go higher.

I cleaned the drivers again. Installed beta nvidia drivers 169.28.

Same BS again. And it wont let me even go over 675 MAX no matter what I do.

Any suggestions appreciated. I gotta be missing something.....a BIOS setting I need to change with nibitor? Anything?

Thx

EDIT: Nevermind. I feel INCREDIBLY stupid now. Everything is 100% A-OK.

I had my shader clock unfixed from the core, and it was staying at stock 1350. The MAX allowed core at 1350 shader was 675, hence until I changed my shader settings I was core limited.

Now I just feel silly LOL

yea glad you got it worked out!

i take it ATITOOL doesnt work on 88's for ocing?

I tried ATItool along the way and it didnt even recognise the clock or memory at all. Read 0.00 and 0.00.

I dont think you can change the shader with ATItool either can you?

Im fairly certain you can use it for Nvidia GPUs for Core and Mem, but I have had some bad personal experiences with ATItool and prefer to avoid it unless its not possible.

Glad you got it figured out. I was going to suggest raising shaders as I have had the same issue trying to get over 756 on the vanilla GT. 1500 on the shaders won't let you get over 756 on the core.
